No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

They would be the divisions whose PIR is 5/22?

Congratulations to this week’s winners of Captain’s Cup!

Div. 812 took top honors in the non-integrated divisions while Div. 928 triumphed in the integrated divisions.

Captain’s Cup is a fun, friendly athletic event held on the Saturday before graduation. The divisions that are set to graduate later in the week get a free morning to kick back and enjoy some fun competition between the divisions in their training group. It’s like recess for recruits.

Events include basketball, volleyball, relay races, tug-of-war, sit-ups, push-ups and more. There is a winning division for the non-integrated (all-male) divisions, and one winning division in the integrated (male/female) divisions.

Each winning division receives a traveling trophy to display in their ship as well as a Captain’s Cup flag that they will carry and display during graduation.

Captain’s Cup gives the recruits the opportunity to display their athleticism they have built up during boot camp.

Just got our form letter from our duaghter. She is on ship 12 div 220. Her mom and I miss her dearly. But we know she is working hard and making us proud. We decided to go visit the USS Midway on mothers day. Wanted a little taste of our duaghters new career. we can not wait to see her at her PIR on June 26th.

Hi all, I'm new to the site.

My son is in ship 02 div 928 PIR 0n 5/22/15. Anyone out there with going to PIR on the same date?

We've had a couple of short calls, the form letter and a 3 page letter so far so it is more than we expected during this time.

We received a call this afternoon from our SR in ship 13 Div201 sounded great was in good spirits. Said he was fighting a cold that there was a bug going around but was doing great. So please say a prayer for all SR at RTC as they find strength, courage and the ability to make their way through one of the toughest challanges in their lives to becoming the next great sailors the US NAVY has to offerour nation.

Another thought...book a hotel closer to the base rather than near the airports. Chicago commuter traffic sucks! It's about a 45 minute commute from the city to RTC...never mind the traffic! It was about 15 minutes from Waukegan. Look into all discounts...and mention that you are coming for PIR...it helps!
