No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Oh, we saw her as she marched by before they took their division positions, and we "sometimes" had a view depending on where the flag was three rows toward us and in front of her. Most of the time all we could see was her dimples once in a while, which meant she was smiling (and should not have been) and probably had abandoned her 1,000-meter stare to take a peek at us. She just had a little downtime (two days), and got to visit with her Godfather in California, both his Sons and their families. And they had one of the largest pizzas I've ever seen (cell picture from her - "aren't you jealous?") Her Godfather's youngest son was a Navy corpsman, served in California, Bremerton, WA, and a few years in Japan. He's now out and working in a Southern California hospital, but still a great source of information for our Sailor.

Hey Chris,Great comment. You may not have seen her, but she was marching in proudly. And yes the DVD is awesome and she is very well "armed" . Smiles!

Hugs to all parents! Man, it seems like just yesterday our daughter was doing the induction process (February) and PIR (April) to each parent talk about here brings back the memories. The DVD is awesome, huh? Our Sailor is only 5-2 and because someone was sick they put her in the 4th row instead of front. And behind a flag from our viewpoint. LOL!

Now she's on a destroyer in San Diego, "armed" with an International phone calling card, and learning hands-on finally the OS whatever she does. :)

Just received "PIR" dvd 06-25-2010 yesterday.I have watched it several times. My sailor was very visable in as his Div. marched by camera, because of his height ,6'4" in back row in mass formation.I remember every thing about that day and to see it again was amazing .It is also amazing how you say goodbye to a boy and he marches into drill hall SO changed ,even in the way they look and carry their self, a man!!, A U.S. SAILOR. I was watching it and the phone rang ,GUESS WHO? We talked about 30 min about "A"school.
All is going very well. Don't what else to say except what a day.

Hey Everyone, I received a phone call from my son today! I wasn't expecting it, which made it all the better. He said they start fire fighting training next week; he has 20 days to go till Graduation, and the whole division is counting down the days! (Ship 07, Div 290, PIR 9/2/10) He says he already knows his leave day, Saturday, which is great as we will have some quality time together. He has an AT rating, so he goes to Pensicola for A school, and he can't wait. We're very excited for him, and can't wait to see him at his PIR. Good luck to you and yours!!

Elbert my daughter shipped on 8/09, Ship 13 Div 327 and will be attending MA school as well. I just received her box and sent another letter. BTW I also did basic in San Diego but it was about 12 years after you. Best of luck to you and your sailor.

My SR. Sailor enter the gates of the Chicago R.T.C. August 10. he's on Ship 13 Div.R 2010 328. 8 weeks wow! I can not believe how short basic is, I spent 12 weeks in basic in 72 in San Diego. Then after basic it's off to Master at Arms "A" School.
