No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congrats John Alexander, my son would have graduated on Oct 3rd as well, # 307. He hurt his back and they medically discharged him. I wish your daughter all the best..Fair Winds..

It seems like forever since my Kevin has been at Great Lakes.  Getting ready to graduate from BESS in Groton, then has orders to be on the crew of the new Indiana boat after some temporary assignments on boats at Norfolk.....  Full speed ahead Kevin!

Probably a little late to get on the boot camp forum but my daughter's pir date is 10-3-14. We are excited but sure anticipating that phone call that says she made it! Like alot I have read I our early letters and phone calls from her she was really homesick and struggling with adjusting to being there. Lately she is excited and anticipating graduation! She has been surprised at some of the things they have accomplished. She has not been able to write much but we have kept the letters going her direction. One week from friday cant wait!!!

What a great way to start the day! We received our first phone call from our daughter. I am very proud. There was no complaining, no whining and she is enjoying it! I guess they get their dog tags today and get to go to church tomorrow and she is excited about that.  From the outside it sounds like they have a great group of instructors that are teaching our kids to be awesome sailors. On another positive note she sees a friend from home almost daily as they train together. GO NAVY!

I was on here about a month ago for my son who ended up hurting his back and was medically discharged. I want to add that my sons best friend from toddler age(is like my son as well) and we just said bye to him last week so he is in his first week of basic. He is EOD so I will be following him throughout his weeks until graduation.

Not all TGs have an 800 division.

Daniel, 800 Divisions are for SEAL,EOD,SWCC, and Aircrew recruits. They do extra PT and water work to prepare them for their training.

Anyone know about 800 divisions?  I don't recall seeing an 818 Division in the 9/19/14 PIR until a few days ago. Is that a group that has been transferred from another PIR?
