No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

You are right. More time to get accustomed to Navy/Boot Camp life before calling would be a good thing. I was surprised when she called. I actually was afraid that something bad had happened.

that's one of the reasons that is best for them NOT to call until about week 3 or so...right now all they are thinking about is home and the RDCs have a real struggle with keeping them focused on the task at hand......

Michael, she only got up there on the night of Sept 2nd.

I think she was also scared. She said that they had already "gotten rid" of a bunch of girls. She didn't say why though.

Just got the first phone call from my son in BC. He advised that he thinks it's week 1, day 2. He said everyone seems to be doing ok, just tired. I was absolutely not expecting a call this soon. He said that they " had long hours and not enough food"! What more could you expect from an 18 yr old eating machine??!

A lot of times that is simply a way to vent...they cannot do that at RTC so those kinda calls are normal....she will do fine!!!!

Bill how far into BC is she?

Comment by Bill Hull on September 13, 2014 at 11:48am

Yes, I was very positive with her. Telling her how she can do it, etc.

Her brother went through BC 1 1/2 years ago and I felt the same way with him. I guess I just miss having her (and him) around. Plus I guess as a parent I still want to baby them...

As she was talking though she did calm down, especially when she told me she passed her swim qual on the 1st try. And that was the 1 thing she was afraid of!

First 3-4 weeks are the hardest then the recruits adapt...normal...don't feel badly about that.  Stay positive- make sure you're positive with her and let her know that she's got this!
