No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Just had the 1st call home from our daughter in Boot Camp.

She was all crying and stuff. Said that she is REALLY homesick.

Makes me feel guilty about suggesting that she join.

I know that she'll get over it, but it still makes me sad and guilty.

Paul, yes, as a Navy retiree myself, I can tell you there's a ton of stuff that can bite a sailor in the butt. The combined knowledge base of this group can help these young blue jackets from learning the hard way and also help those that love and support them cope and understand some of the stuff they may be dealing with. Proud to offer my insights and grateful for that of others.

Just want to make an editorial comment here...we see a lot of members join and use the site for boot camp and then effectively never use the site again after PIR.  I've been dealing with the Navy since '05--- my daughters PIR was in OCT '05 and my son's PIR was in Apr '07......and I've had a bazillion more questions about Navy life post-PIR than I ever did about Boot Camp.....PCS moves, getting married, legal issues while deployed, mail and phone contracts, care packages, holidays, leave, airline and transportation issues and issues, uniform allowances, benefits and insurance costs, family issues like funerals, buying and selling cars, etc., etc.- and about a million other things....stay active and ask your questions!  There is a wealth of information available for you....use this as a resource to make the following years  less stressful !!!!
