No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Mitch, did you happen to see if they let people in after the ones on the "list"?

I would have to say......................................................................just okay.
but I'm not a big pizza eater. The potato chips with the sauce poured over it was outstanding.

Hey Greg,
Matt said he saw Tony at Silo's but not after we had driven away.

Mitch
We missed you at Silos. My son said he saw Matt but he disappeared somewhere in the resturant. We had the same the same luck with Tony. Grade and go, picked him up 1600 FRIDAY and dropped him 1900 Sunday. We were able to get him Computer, phone and I-pod. We are I-chatting now as we speak. I love the instant com-line. I am sorry we missed you guys and glad to hear you had good time. We posted some photos before BC ended and Tony caught all kinds of grief from his shipmates so be careful.

My son is staying at GL for A-school and to process on Friday took him about 41/2 hours. By 1700 hrs he was done and we picked him up at the USO parking lot just outside the main gate. He had overnight liberty and got to stay with us day and night from Friday until we dropped him off last night at 1600 hrs. He didn't have any duty on Monday either and if I had been paying attention I would have realized Monday was a holiday and we could have spend another 24 hours with him. But he was anxious to get back, get settled, and start this new leg of his adventure, (as he likes to call it).

For those who have PIR coming up I highly recommend taking a taxi or shuttle rather than driving yourselves. It was very easy and much quicker than waiting in the line of cars. The taxi/shuttle drivers know the area they know the short cuts and they have no problem with cutting into line. Lol
It was well worth paying 3 bucks there and 3 bucks back. We got there so fast we had a seat right in front and could almost touch my son when they marched past. Then when they lined up he was directly in front of us so when liberty was called we were with him before most could even stand up.

Jim,
We didn't have a grad and go for our daughter because of the new years holiday. Wednesday 30 DEC grad, Because of this we had to have her back to RTC each evening and were not able to leave any electronics, ie cell phone, laptop etc. If they are grad & go to the GL A -school then i have heard that you will have to wait approx 5-hrs for them to process/move to the A school side after grad, then they have more liberal liberty and are allowed to keep their electronics etc. The USO at the A school base has a parking lot just outside the main gate for visitors waiting for their new grads. " Good place to catch up with them. I had hoped to rent a locker on the base to leave her stuff yet this year all the lockers are being replaced by contractors, just bad timing so we have been mailing ever since.....

Chris will be attending A school at GL. What we don't know is if he's grad&go. I think in week 6 or 7 they get orders transferring them to A school upon completion of graduation. I believe those orders will tell him when he has to report.

Not all rate have an immediate follow on to C- School. Some are after making a certain pay grade and requirement for their next duty station/billet that requires that C-school NEC.
