No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

My son has his PIR on Friday so I have been reading through some of the Navy info of what is going to take place before and and after graduation. One thing that keeps jumping out at me , and this just may be me, but even after graduation they refer to them as "Recruits" rather than Sailors. Like I said it just might be me but after graduation I think they have at least earned the title of Sailor. Rant complete. Lol

Zach's Dad - sounds like your son is about 3 weeks into boot camp. Honestly I think the hardest part - the first 2 weeks - is behind him. That first couple of weeks is the hardest on them emotionally and after 3-4 weeks I think the time starts to go by faster for them - and for us. Its the beginning of a great journey. Our son finished boot camp a year ago and is just now leaving on his first deployment overseas. This is 6-8 months and it will be hard but he's so much more sure of himself and settled emotionally than he was 14 months ago its remarkable and that makes it easier for us I think. We know that he knows that he's where he's meant to be, doing what he set out to do. He's a gunner on a small patrol boat and absolutely loves it. Guess he's one of the lucky ones so far.

Mark - I am the same for the most part.. I do try to write him every other day or so, and include daily news, and some of the funny jokes that I get in my email daily! :) something more for them to laugh about! :)

My wife writes Mark everyday and so does his girlfriend. I write once a week. His mother can send all the drivel stuff. We like to include sports scores and stories. She sends pics all the time, too. In HIS division, it is 20 push-ups per letter. All the women are appalled at that and I had to explain there are GOOD push-ups and BAD push-ups. They like the good ones.

In Mark's letter yesterday, he said his division (911) started at 87 recruits and is down to 74. He laughed and wondered how many would be tossed off their island. LOL He didn't say why they were falling out.

We got 5 letters from Brian yesterday.Said he is doing fine, but some others in his compartment can't keep their mouth's shut and they are in trouble alot. Does anyone else have their son in Ship 14 Div99?

Zach's Dad - the delay in the snail mail is very true!!! They will get them, they may be in a bunch or a trickle effect! I know my Zach got 5 at a time, 10 pushups per letter, but he said - Keep them coming too! One thing that I have been doing for Zach is attaching about 8 pics in MS Word. and just printing them that way - This is boot camp ~ not a cruise oversea's. So I told him, hold on to the pictures for boot camp - then afterward - you can toss them - its not like they are printed 4x6 pics and a lot of $$ wasn't spent. Just a thought and what I have been doing and if I send 2 pages he gets about 16 pictures :) He can share the pics around easier that way - and if they get ruined - oh well - i can resend them or whatever :) but you have it right! KEEP SENDING THEM! :) heheheh
