No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

We have not recieved a phone call yet other than "I'm here" and that was on Nov 12th. BUT, no news is good news I guess. We'll see him for his PIR on 01/15/10 so that will make up for it.

Carlos- phones calls are a reward and are at the discretion of the division RDC. One mother on N4M has never gotten a call other than the "I arrived" call. We've received three or four, I think the first one may have been week 3 or 4. So don't expect a call and be pleasantly surprised when you get it.

Thanks Frank for the translation, I knew I had people who could understand, translating from Spanish into English. The sentences sometimes do not understand, for me it is easier to translate from Spanish to English. In unity there is strength, God always puts people on the road to offer help, that the beginning of Christmas, that we help each other, being part of a group of people aiming to help others fills me with pride and hope in a world that needs so much stair and support. in unity there is strength, God always puts people on the road to offer help, that the beginning of Christmas, that we help each other, being part of a group of people aiming to help others fills me with pride and hope in a world that needs so much stair and support. This is the third week Gustavo my son has been in boot camp had heard that they would give him the opportunity to make a call to the third or fourth week, I wonder if this is true because when the call went late at night and I could talk to, support, knowing that she is the family of all sides that support is very important.Thank you all Frank, Mark, Dan for the support
The Blessing of God always be with you and your family

I had a friend translate Carlos's post, easier than a Google translator, not sure if there was a question in there for us or not...

"Gus, you are not going to believe what just happened. Carlos was programming Joshua's cell phone on the computer but your mother disconnected it and a argument broke out, i was able to program it again so everything is fine now. Then, the dog got loose and lady was passing by outside and she ran leaving her belongings she carried which had a unpleasant smell. "

Carlos- was something lost in translation?

They must be on access list to get on the base though, and only the recruit can add names to the list. And they have to have been added the week before graduation. With the speed of communication with our recruits time is running out.

From what I understand, those 4 seats are GUARANTEED but there is room for others that may want to attend. They just wait in line until all those on the list are in and seated.

Stephanie, this was taken from the "family faq" from the link...

Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children younger than 12 years of age do not count against the four-seat maximum and do not have to be on the access list. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS. All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate).

We (his mom) finally got a call today. He had 30 minutes so mom got 15 and girlfriend got 15. Dad will get the next one. My wife called, ecstatic, about finally hearing from him.

He is doing well. They did get the big feast on Christmas and he did go to church on Christmas Eve. Sundays are tough because they are doing all their prep for the next week. She said his attitude is good and he is enjoying standing quarterdeck watches. All the "old salts" coming in have to salute him and request permission to come aboard and he thinks that is pretty cool. His division is known as the shiny boot division. Their boots are supposedly shinier than any of the other divisions.
