This is a blog by a sailor retiring after 20 years. This post is about his Boot Camp experience. Such as the Master At Arms who was a sleep walker, and conducted midnight inspections while asleep. Opened up lockers. Remember where the lockers are?

One thing on the grad and go thing is even if they are told they are grad and go many times they don't actually leave for a day or two, and even if they do have a little time, you can actually maximize your time with your grad if you drive yourself. My son graduated last year at this time of year. He was grad and go. After graduation everybody met at the NEX and at that time we were able to find out what actually was going on with our grad. He was able to go out to eat with us and spend time at the motel. we stayed at the navy lodge which is about a five minute drive and he got back on the base no problem. I think a car is a big advantage and I've never seen him enjoy food more than that big old steak he ate after graduation. When the food came the conversation came to an abrupt halt. No matter how you do it dress warmly, because there is a little walking involved and bring some kleenex even if you're a big old rough, tough, Dad like I was. Congratulations to all, have a safe trip and you'll never be prouder.

There's a new thing called Google Wave, that has automatic translation. It's sort of a combination of email, Twitter, cloud computing and is actually totally new. If anyone is interested in playing with it, I can send you an invitation, if you give me your email (I only have a few invitations left)

Thanks both for your support and guidance .I go to tray doing the possible thing for writing it in English for my it is more simply it to read that to write in English .Today we receive the box with her properties.I now this next weeks are important for all of them , I have a lot of faith that everything is going to be OK. I trust me son and I support her 200%.

The shuttle was the easiest especially if you are unfamiliar with driving in the poor weather. The line is long at the gate and you will wait but we just had to unload and go thru the security, got our hands stamped and we were in. The last shuttle was at noon to go back to the hotel but our son was a grad and go to the other side of the base for A school and he had to be back at his room to pack by 11:30 or so. We got him back at 5:15 for the whole weekend. We just went to the NEX and shopped and went back on the last shuttle to the hotel. It was great.

consider than in light of the recent aircraft issue that higher security may in effect....allow some extra time everywhere!!

Hey John, the shuttle is a good idea. We drove ourselves. With the shuttle you are tied to their schedule. If you drive you may get more time with you Sailor. It depends on if they are a grad and go. We got in line at 5:35 am and by 6:00 the line was almost a mile long. We were in just as fast as the shuttle. The gate opened exactly at 6:30 and we were in the parade hall before 7:oo. It is about a 1/2 mile walk from check-in so dress warm. Fell free to check my page. I posted awhile back about the PIR if you would like to read it. The post is from Nov. 18th. we've been advising the shuttle for a long time inthe PIR - Tips and Hints group. I've driven on base for a PIR and have taken the shuttle for another PIR....shuttle is the way to go even though you have to walk about a quarter of a mile. Getting on base driving was a pain but nothing compared to the more than an hour wait trying to get out of the parking lot after PIR.....we've been advising asking about the shuttle when you make your lodging arrangements

John, I don't know about a shuttle, but lady at the Navy Lodge told me it is better to take a taxi/shuttle etc. because if you drive, you have to go through security. She said it takes forever.
