No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Scott - honestly, I didn't know my son actually knew how to write a letter, let alone his address! All my son ever did was TEXT on his cell phone! and since he didn't have that ~ I thought for sure it would have been a long 9 weeks! However, he said on Sunday's the RDC's tell them to "WRITE HOME!" Granted my son's letters are short and to the point ~ I told him they are very much appreciated! Even though they may not write back as much as we would like, they are getting them. My son told me today, its the letters from home, from friends and family that have been the inspiriation to get him through these past couple of weeks! He looks forward to the MAIL CALL at the end of the day ~ yesterday he got 5 letters, and had to do 50 pushups for him, but he said - NO PROBLEM! Just to get mail from home ~

Thanks Dan, We got his Address last night. I mailed his letter today, also his wife did too. Brian is not much for writing so we just don't know what the delay is. As I said not one note yet from him as to his address or anything else.I know what it is like to not hear for a while as I grew up in that kind of life, his wife has not. It will be hard for her this Christmas and their sons birthday is 01-01-2010. I guess its differant with kids as my wife got used to it.

Just got a letter from Patrick ship 13 div 052. PIR Jan 15. Said that he got his E2 rate. I guess this is unusual. I just wondered if it will take a long time to make E3 since he got this so quick. Also he said his a school, Gas turbine, is now 15 wks long. Any info on that would be a great help. Merry Christmas to all!

Scott - i know it took me about 10 or so days before we got our 'actual' first letter from my son. and it has been 23 days since we got to actually physically talk to him on the phone! :) .. sooo keep patient.. keep writing letters, and when you get the address, send them. Tonight my son told me they don't have hardly any time to write, but its the letters that keep him chugging along!!!

We got another letter from Rosie today. Things seem to be going well. They made her the Division Religion Petty Officer. I got a real kick out of that, especially after they took her Rosary away from her during P-week. We may get a phone call tomorrow so I've put the whole family on phone watch.

I hope everybody has a great Christmas!

Haven't got a call or a letter yet from my son Brian. Did find out through his recruiter his Address Ship 14 DIV 99. Driving us and his wife nuts.
