No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Merry Christmas to all you NAVY DAD'S! I wish all of you and your families the very best holidays and New Year, may your sailors remain healthy and safe throughout there journey in the NAVY.

E.G. thank you for having the strength, will and desire to start this great group. I have come to know many fathers who are living the same experience of having a child in the NAVY. E.G. your dream of starting a group for all of us fathers out here is growing daily. We as fathers can interact, be open with our questions and feel and show emotions usually not done in front of the ladies.

My son Nicholas will be at Great Lakes for over one year when he ships to San Diego 31/Jan/10. This group has become a home to interact with other fathers who have and will experience there sailors NAVAL journey.
Thanks again E.G., Paul and all of you other great DAD'S. Merry Christmas to all. Gary T.

Joe-and anybody else with PIR 1/8/10, join the group.

Steven- I won't throw you under the bus at N4M's for expressing your feelings. I troll the site disguised as my wife all the time!

All- glad to see some activity from the Dads, the moms think we don't have any emotions, just because we don't cry when a box of stinky clothes show up?

Steve -nicely put . My boy and I didn't see eye to eye in the past year or so and I too was itching for him to go. Now with Christmas almost here I find myself wondering why I was so hard on him all the time. Maybe it helped him deal with boot camp a little better though.

HooYah Navy Boys ! Lord give them the strength to complete this journey.

Way to go dad. You survived! I, unfortunantly, continue to be tortured by the empty mail box day in and day out. Am I the only one who couldn't wait till he was gone on some days and on others was realizing this was it, and he would be out the house for good.? At least he better be. It takes me some time to take a breath and realize that this is what our job was. Raise em up right and get them out on their own. Be careful when family or friends say that its so sad when they leave. I always correct them and tell them its a wonderful time. He defending our country! He a man now, making his own way.

We used to spar with each other by yelling "83 more days!", "25 more days!".. Then it was like, "crap, one more day"....

I pray we all understand whatta great job these guys/gals have done. They stepped up and took the lead. Mine didn't even ask. He just went and signed up. Amazed us. So, remember when you pray for your kids, God will answer your prayers. It just may not be your answer, but it will be an answer. : ) Rest easy, be still, live by faith!

Merry Christmas everyone! I'm so proud of all of our kids.

(don't tell M4M's I wrote all this. It's late and I'm tired. Weak with emotions.. Be strong Dad's)

Carlos, My son reported on Dec 14 2009 and left for the airport Dec 15 2009 from MEPS Sacramento. We got the I'm ok call that night and we just got his box on dec.18 2009. No letter yet. looks like our sons will be in the same PIR at the same time. Best of luck on hearing soon from your son.

Lee left the Monday before Thanksgiving - Today we got her 1st letter - all 7 of them - LOL! And suprise - we also got a 15 minute phone call home today - this is the 1st contact we have had since the form letter & I am here & OK call...She arrived sick with food poisoning from airport food - so she didn't get the chance to try out for the 900 division - she was color guard captain in HS these last 2 years, kinda disgusted about that - but in great morale, and spirit!!!!

Carlos - you should have heard from your son shortly after he arrived at RTC, telling you he arrived safely and to expect a box with his things in it. They only get to write on Sundays, so you should start getting letters soon.

Our sailor came home yesterday for 15 days. He PIR'd on 12/4 and was a grad and go across the street as well. He is now on hold for A school to start. That means alot of liberty and no school for now. Last weekend he and friends went to the Bears/Packers game and had a ball. He is so happy to be at home. Went through his closet though and refolded everything!! Quite humorous for all of us!
