No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Mitch- I'll be sure to let you know. we chose it because it has 2 bedroom suites and Dan's brother and sister are coming too. Plus it has a room with a sofa to hang out with our sailor.

My son's PIR is 01/15/10 and we are staying at the Residence Inn as well. John, let me know how your stay was. I've been looking around on-line and Residence Inn seems to get great reviews.

On another note, my wife finally got her first letter from our son. I almost missed the letter in the mailbox and if I hadn't stuck my hand way in the back we probably would have missed it. So I decided to mess with her a bit and did some out loud thinking about how many times we could have missed it if it was stuck way in the back. She wasn't ammused. lol

We will be staying at the Courtyard in Waukegan and our PIR is also 01/08/10.

When is your PIR? My son graduates 1/8/10 and we're staying at the Residence Inn.

Bob, we posted our son's address on his Facebook page.

I am with ya. I would like to see a POD posted online somewhere each day so we know what they are doing that day.

Our form letter showed up over the weekend. I had to laugh as my daughter's primary concern was that we make sure her friends get her address at Boot Camp. We got about eight words. Hi family, I'm OK, will write soon.

She would have started Day 1-1 today too, I think. I think the hardest part of all of this is not knowing exactly what is happening day by day. I'm the kind of guy who wants them to post the POD on line somewhere so I can look at it and analyze it. But that's just me.

We got a call today! It has been 2 weeks today since he left home. Today's call was a "free" call because he had to get information for his security clearance processing. He got to call his girlfriend, his mom and I.

He said he is having fun so far. The chow is pretty good, most of the time. The division is coming together as a team very quickly. Twice they have all stepped forward for punishment in order to lessen the punishment of a single recruit. That is a huge step, if you've been to bootcamp, you understand. The more things like that that they do, the more calls home they get!

Today is officially Day 1-1 for them. They finished P-days last Wednesday, but 900 divisions can only start on Mondays for some reason. The grad date is still 2/5.

Man, isn't that the truth! PIR couldn't come quickly enough and even though my son was a Grad-and-Go we are so much more at ease knowing that he can call or webcam with us almost every night and weekend. That will probably tail off a bit once he starts his A-school in Jan.
