No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Just got back from Great Lakes. Our son did PIR on 04DEC09. It was great! The ceremony was fantastic and we got to spend some quality time with John. He reports for for the next step across the road this week. He will be attending ATT and then ET A school at Great Lakes. Only one problem, he did the advanced physical qualifications to be an E-2 before he went in and his uniform is not representing his e-2 status. His recruiter told me that all recruits are e-1 until after graduation but I saw plenty of graduates with "french fries" on there sleeves.

For me and my family, I think the first week was the toughest. When we received our son's first real letter (after P-week), it seemed reassuring and as time has gone on, the emotions have really settled down and we are now anticipating PIR on Jan. 15th. Everyone here has a right to be proud of their son or daughter as to the path they've chosen. I know PIR will be a very emotional time. I'm really looking forward to seeing my son and the transformation that will have taken place!

Well, everybody, Rosie is off to Great Lakes as of 3:36 this afternoon. Poor kid has a nasty head cold. Does anyone know how they might deal with that when she arrives at Great Lakes? Mom cried at the airport and Dad even shed a little tear. Rose left with a group of really great kids. On the way back home I told my wife that I feel pretty damned good about the future of our country with kids like these willing to step forward and serve. We should all be really proud. The kids are alright!

SCE, your Sailor has to get permission from his CO to get married. Best have them start with their PLO to get everything in order before getting the marriage license at the JP or wherever they get them.

Just returned from 12/04/09 PIR at RTC. Friday morning was like Christmas! Heavy flurries during the night left a thin blanket of white everywhere. The ceremony was unbelievable and tugs at your heartstrings. 997 new Sailors headed out to serve in the most powerful Naval fleet on the face of the planet. Got 40 minutes of video, just need to figure out how to get it up here! My son Ryan was in Ship 11 / Divsion 020. HOO-YAH!

Jim, I wonder if those that shipped on the first are in that ship, due to the holiday? I am hoping he gets in the 900 division.

We'll be staying at the Residence Inn-Waukegan. PIR 1/8/10 Ship 3 Div 50. We'll be driving from Delaware and were told to watch the weather, the turnpikes can close due to lake effect snow. We were told to be prepared to take 70 West south of Pittsburgh to 65 North in Indy.

I just got a note from the recruiter that she can not get the division info just the ship. Anyone have any suggestions. I guess I'll wait a couple of days and see if we get a note from our recruit. ?
