No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Larry,
The call could come at any time. Whenever they get a free moment and are able to go to the NEX. The Exchange is the only location they can make phone calls.

Good luck to you and your son and I am quite sure you will enjoy and never forget this experience. The feeling of the all the pomp and circumstance being for your child and about 900 others really was special.

Enjoy

Hi Brian,
The best I can figure from the RTC site info is about 12 ships, which is the barracks they live, eat, sleep and coduct some training in. Each ship is then broke out to the divisions ( approx 80 or more people each DIV) My daughters Training Group will be graduating approx 14 Div on the 30DEC. This includes the specialty group 800 and 900 divisions that consist of the ColorGuard During PIR. I'm not sure how they select these people. Ihave noticed as the groups are schedule the Division number will always keep increasing as that Fiscal year progresses (like class numbers). Hope this helps. Our family is halway thru the bootcamp process and are praying for success..... Go Navy!!!!!!!!

My son's mother got the dreaded call yesterday, my son also is being moved to Ship 5 being an ex Navy guy not taking the news really well. He was so gung-ho when he left cannot imagine what transpired that changed that feeling. Will have to wait until he comes home to find out.

I have a question for you folks that have been here a while, what makes up the "Divisions", there are ships (I understand) - but how many divisions? and whats the breakdown? Do they interact ? even though they are on the same ship? Inquiring minds wanna know...lol!

Norman,

It doesn't look like they have posted that info yet but keep an eye on this site: http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/upcoming_grads.asp
If you lose this link you can always click on it in the "About This Site" on the right hand side of this page titled "PIR (Pass In Review) Dates". good luck.
