No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

My son is in Ship 10 Div 072. Does anyone know when his PIR is scheduled?

Just got great news. My son passed his final test, battlestations, last night and is now a full-fledged sailor...got his coveted Navy ball cap today and will do his PIR this Friday. He had a 4 hour watch on Sun night then had to do battlestations from 9pm Mon to 10am this morning. He said he's tired! We can't wait to go to the PIR. So proud.

Jim,

I took the liberty of starting a group for our recruits (soon to be sailors). I hope you'll join, and if anyone else knows others with children on Ship #10/ DIV #074 - please let them know...

Larry sorry to hear the news, hang in there - this could be a blessing in disguise...

So Ship 5 is the "transition" ship...

Spoke with the recruiter this afternoon and we now have an address for Chris.
He's in Ship 10/Div 074.
I'll be hitting the post office first thing in the morning, and dropping some stuff in Priority Mail so he'll get it by Friday.

Anyone else in that Ship/Div?

Ship 5 is also used to house recruits waiting to start A school.

Thanks Jim.

I hope all will be well Richard.

Ship 5.....BAAAAAD! Got it.

I believe Ship 5 is where they send recruits that are being out-processed.
Earlier there was a Dad on here who's son was being medically discharged because they discovered a heart murmur during boot.

Richard or anyone, what is Ship 5 and why does it mean his journey is over? Doesn't it just mean he didn't meet a qualification and will be recycled into an earlier class? I don't see the Navy giving up on a recruit that easily or that fast......am I wrong? Is this something I should be concerned with so soon?

Hang in there. It just isn't meant to be for some. Hopefully the sun will shine on your family and some kind of good will come out of this.
