No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Thank you all for the kind words. Brett sends his thanks as well. He is doing great with his career so far. He is living in Virginia Beach and is doing administrative work at Dam Neck. He reports to his ship the USS Donald Cook in April. He is a GM and will specialize in VLS. And get this, he misses boot! He made some life long friends there and is thinking about becoming and RDC after his 4 years are up. Your Sailor will be ok. Trust that. Some more so than others, but they WILL be ok. I found out and I think I am a better father for it. Godspeed to our Sailors!! HOOYAA!!

Have received first hand written letter.
Complained that he wanted us to write, well I have been and I know that
they have crossed in the mail.
Momma is happier.

WE received word on Tonys ship +div today only 4 days into bootcamp. One week about down 7 to go.Any one else here have a loved one in SHIP 4 DIV 803? Son was in DEP 4 months to get ready for this challenge .His first quick note home said "having fun- up 37 hours first day, stood at attention for 3" Humor still intact that is a good sign I would say.

Bill, that was a great story. Like those who wrote afterwards, we too are anxious and excited to have our own experience. Our 24-yr old son, Justin is on Ship 11, Div 18 and will be in PIR on 12/4. We're flying out of Seattle on 12/3 and hope to have the weekend with him, if he gets liberty. I too would like to know if he will be subject to Grad and Go. Sure hope not. Anyone out there in the same ship & division?

Larry and all others....if your tear ducts seem to spring a leak at PIR...try blaming in on the bright lights! At least that always sounds good!! LOL

Bill - great story. PIR is close for us now and I am already trying to figure out how I am going to hold it together and not cry like a baby!

Got another letter from John last night. It was dated 15Nov09. He said he just completed the toughest week of boot so far. They did a whole bunch of qualifications and he got his ribbon in firearms. They also had a couple of inspections and he did very well. He is counting down the days left and is excited to see all of us next week for Thanksgiving. The worst of boot is over for him and he knows it. He is excited to get on to the next step of his naval career.
