No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

John & Richard: Give the recruiter a call today, P-Days or otherwise called Processing days can take anyware from 5 to 10 days. Depending on how many recuits and all those shots, hair cuts, uniforms, Medical and dental screenings etc. If they get assigned to their Division the Recruiter can see what SHIP___ & DIV___ they are assigned to. I would wait for the form letter (takes about two weeks) prior to making any arrangements for traveling to Pass In Review.

Hi John and Richard. I know it's difficult but try to be patient, you'll get a form letter with the ship and division. It will also have other info that you'll need. The greatest part of it will be the section where your recruit will be able to write a few lines to you. The letter usually follows behind "the box" in a very short amount of time ( a few days at the most). Once you get the address, send them plenty of letters (don't try to "smuggle" anything to them, it's not good for the recruit) and your recruit will be happy. My sailor told me that the letters from home help them get through some of the tougher days. Hang in there, PIR will be here before you know it. Best wishes for you and your recruit.

Tomorrow, Monday, will be the start of week two. We got the box but still don't have a division or address. How long should we wait before calling the recruiter?

We just got back from PIR our sailor was able to be out from fri afternoon to sun as he was grad and go. We drove in to the PIR and had no trouble we had our parking pass and all went well maybe 10 to 15 min in line from start to park. we were able to wait at USO for him and he came out around 4:30 what a GREAT WEEKEND

Our son (Chris) is in Ship 03, Div 042. Anyone elses son/daughter?

Got our son's box this week as well and noticed his pants rolled up. It's funny that you're all seeing the same thing. My guess is that they were getting fitted for shoes and were told to leave them rolled up. On Thursday we received "the" letter with his ship, division, etc. He wrote a few lines and I couldn't believe how neat his hand writing was -- a good first sign!
