No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Nick,

You probably won't know about the grad and go until PIR. My son PIR'd 10/30 and stayed until the following Wed cleaning the compartment and he is also going to AECF. Not sure what prompts the grad and go thing. But, once again, won't know until PIR. Congrats to your son for entering this fine organization and I am sure he will do well.

My son is also in AECF at GL. His PIR is on 12/4. How do we find out about the grad and go to the building across the street? Roger your pictures made my wife cry. She can hardly wait for the 4th. Your son looks great!

Larry, Thanks. Yes weekend liberty means out all weekend. The reason is that he was grad and go to the training facility across the street. He graduated, had about an hour with us, then went back to move out of the place he was then get on a bus to drive across the street to his new barracks. Took a few hours for him to check in and get situated, then he gave us a call to pick him up in time for dinner. My understanding is that most (or all?) of the AECF's go for A training across the street, but not all are grad and go. If your son does not get placed across the street immediately after graduation, you may not get him over night(s).

Roger - You look one proud dad! We are 4 weeks from PIR and I can't wait to be able to post pictures like that up here. My son will be attending AECF a school also. When you say weekend liberty are you saying he didn't have to go back to base each night? That would be fantastic! Bravo zulu to you and your sailor.

My son just PIR'd last Friday 11/6/09. We had a seamless experience with so much help from earlier posts here. We too the hotel shuttle (super low rate taxi - $3 each) right to the gate. No worries whatsoever. Check was easier this way too - at the gate. There were a bunch of taxis waiting for us when we were ready to leave after PIR. Got there by 7 AM and had time to burn. Picked seats at the top of the bleachers for the best view. Here are some of my shots.

We received a real treat. Alex got 3 days of Liberty and stayed with us the whole weekend because he was grad and to to the training facility across the street for AECF/FC. He asked during one of his phone calls to check-in (muster), and they say he will get to take his guitar back on base with him. On to the next stage!

The incident at Fort Hood reminds us of the reason our sons and daughters stepped up and signed a blank check to defend our freedoms and rights. we never know were the ugly head of terrorism may rear its ugly head
May all of our sons and daughters come home safe

Hi all,
My son graduated last week and I thought I would pass along a few things. There are tolls, change is helpful, carry at least $2 depending on where you are coming from. We got to the gate just before 7 AM and had no problem getting on the base, but when we arrived at the hall most of the seating was already filling up. There are signs listing the division numbers where your son or daughter should be standing. The signs turned out to be off by 1 or 2 division groups though. The hall you go into is a long hall with visitors sitting along one side and the recruits standing along the other side. Our recruit was told he would not have liberty on Sunday, but called me around 10:00 AM to tell me that he could leave. So we were lucky to see him all three days. He moved this week and is no longer in the recruit area. I know this has been said before, but they are not allowed to bring anything back with them from leave. You will have to mail stuff to them after they move. It was so good to see him in person. An experience you will never forget. :-)
