No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

My wife and I are empty nesters as well. Our son, David left Orlando on October 28. Just got his "box" today... Been reading and soaking up all the comments about graduation but it's still so far away.

New to the site. Daughter left for boot camp last monday, She arrived safely and we are waiting for the Division Number for Mailing letters. No news is good news.... Based on their Processing schedule "P days" she should be starting her formal Training this week if she hasn't already. Brings back the memories !!!! :) -
I really appreciate everyone's comments/recommendations for PIR. Were estimating a 30DEC09 Grad and plan to drive to the area. The Taxi to the base definately sounds like the least frustrating and quickest check in. I'm onboard for that plan. Thanks for the advice.

Well as of today we are a empty nest. Number 2 son left for Great Lakes this afternoon.
So my wife is blase about it on the outside, but I can tell that she is not as tense as our Marine when he left for boot camp.

Jack, what time should I be at the chapel to see the sailors march out? This may not apply to us because Wes will be going to AECF training right after graduation, so we hear, but I want to be prepared. Thanks.

Roger, congratulations on yours sons P.I.R.. It is somewhat difficult to answer your question with ref: to times off after graduation. The correct term is (Liberty). Usually on the day of graduation your sailor will be able to tell you when he or she will be moving over to the A-School side of the Base.

If he moves immediately you will be able to chat briefly once graduation is concluded. Your sailor will then be required to report back to his ship (barracks) to move to the A-School side. It will take about 5 hours until you will be able to meet again. He should then be on liberty for the entire week-end and must report to his new ship on Sunday no later then 9:00 P.M.. Once he is transferred over he will then be allowed his cell phone and laptop.

If your sailor does not transfer over to the A-School side and remains on the RTC side he will start liberty immediately after graduation but will be required to return to the RTC each night before 9 PM. He will then be given liberty the following day unless he is required to pull duty for a portion of that day.If he remains on RTC he will not be allowed to bring a cell phone or laptop back to base until he is officially moved to the A-School base.

If your sailor transfers over to A-School you will usually meet him at the USO one block east of Gate 1. (Visitor Center). Hope this helps. Gary T.

Steven, we purchased the "insurance" in case we had to cancel.

Got a call from my son on Friday after he passed Battle Stations. Graduation is this Friday (11/6) and we've started packing. He's grad and go to right across the street for AECF/FC so we are wondering if he will get leave for the weekend. Any folks with experience in this? N4M has lots of positive comments on this.

Finally, a phone call came today! Patrick sounds great. He is very happy and couldn't stop talking about how much he has learned. He also said the food is pretty good. He says they study all the time. He is on the sprint team for the captains cup and can't wait to win it for his Div. We're all feeling better now that we have actually spoken.

Steven, if you want to book a flight early to get a cheaper price book one that is refundable. Congrats to you and your son.
