No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Gents, Ours is leaving for GL Dec 1. Were any of you able to purchase your plane tickets for PIR this far in advance? I don't see how, not knowing an exact date of PIR. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking we just wait till we know and pay a higher price.

I saw that there are 13 divisions graduating on 12/4. It should be quite a crowd. Any one yet from Ship 7 Div 14? Still no phone call but 2 more letters came on Fri. He sounds tired. Still frustrated with the group he is in charge of. They don't seem to care if they do well. All we can do is encourage him to do his best.

New here: Our Son left for BC 8 October from Michigan, has sent many letters and got one phone call, their marching was sort of Ok so he got a quick call. Looks like he will be going into the SeaBee's with some other friends in his division. Looking forward to his PIR 4 December....

Hey everyone,

I was all set to jump on here and be all jubilant, then I read Larry's post. Larry, I am so sorry to hear about your son. I know that can be devastating as hell. Not sure what you can do about it, but I would definately be checking on it. Our prayers are with you and him.

Now for a little jubilance. At PIR today and watched Nick graduate. What an awesome experience. I am a retired officer and was debating on whether or not to wear my uniform. When Nick called 3 weeks ago, he requested that I do, so I did. What an experience to see him finish something you finished over 33 years ago. He really has changed as to how he sees and views life. What a change, what a young man!!! He really looked good in those cracker jacks. Yes, today I am a very Proud Navy Dad!!

C. steven. Good luck to your son as he comes home. We have close friends whose son had the same problem. It took some months for him to recuperate but is now doing very well and recently got married. He is very happy. Our prayers are with you and your son.

We still have not heard from our son Patrick (other than a letter). I sent him an AT&T phone card as someone suggested but he would not have received it yet. I am also scared to death that he will call and we won't be here to get the call. With out 2 hour time difference it could be a problem. As Starboard watch leader he said he gets yelled at more than others as his well being depends on how well the starboard side of the ship has done their work. I hope this isn't why he hasn't earned a phone call.

Larry, have you received a phone call from your son yet? We received a call yesterday (wed) at 5:30pm and my wife was unavailable and I was on a business trip so we both missed the call, but my daughter was home to answer it so all was not lost. I'm sorry we missed the call, but my daughter said Wes still sounded very upbeat even though he had had his wisdom teeth pulled and had experienced a little infection from that. He also got his dress whites and blues of which he was very proud. Hope you heard from you recruit as well. Time is flying by.

Steven, we will continue to pray for your son and your family. As you said, the military is not for everyone, but I'm sure your son will find his direction in life and will excel in that endeavor. Be sure to give him a big THANKS from all of us, for his effort and tell him to keep his head up and to stand tall.

Congratulations to all the Sailors graduating today, and their families. I can't wait until 11/13.
