No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

John - That's a good story. Made me laugh. Have a great time at PIR and be sure to give a report when you get back. Give your sailor a Bravo Zulu from me.

Larry - They must have a mess of junk boots they are issuing them as my boy lost the sole on his right boot lately. He wears 15's and they must have been some old, dried out Vietnam-era relics they issued him. He PIR's on 10/30 and we got letters for about 3-4 weeks with him describing the sole of his right boot slowly tearing off. He says he got his new ones last week, well before Battle Stations, but it was difficult at times before to walk, let alone drill with a ruined boot.
He says his most prized possession he'll leave GL with is the right sole of that boot. We are leaving this afternoon to head to PIR and I cannot wait to see him and his sole too.

Steven - God bless your son. My hopes are that he will quickly get over this experience. Our son John has sent his second letter home and it was quite a relief to hear that he is settling in nicely now. He said his only real complaint is that his boots don't fit real well and he has a big blister on one of his feet. His mother and I were proud when he said that when the recruits mail finally caught up to him he had "by far the biggest pile of letters" The remolding of our boy into a sailor is well on its way judging by the usage of naval terms in his letter. 5 weeks from today we leave for PIR. The time really does fly by.

Larry,
Thank You for that video link There is way to much emotion involved to talk about how proud I am as a parent. We we're personally touched by the 9/11 attacks as we are only 40 miles north of NY city Thank You again

I was wondering if anyone that is going to graduation on Friday October 30th for Ship 10 Division 372 would be willing to call me at home regarding the parking pass information. I somehow misplaced the paperwork with the internet address and password to get the parking pass printed off. I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Dan Sharpe 573-237-2168

That is a great video. I have no other words. There is no way that anyone who doesn't have a loved one in the service can possibly understand. I know I didn't!

John will be attending AECF A school right there at Great Lakes. He says he would like to be FC rather then ET but of course we all know it will be up to "the needs of the Navy" We aren't that far ahead of you. The best advice you can get is hang in there. It's already amazing to me how fast the time is going. Also write to your son as much as possible. If your anything like me it will be a lot easier to express your feelings on paper. Make sure you write often. John told me on the phone that the letters are like a life line back to family.
