No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Larry- Scott knows the background on my "story" concerning driving to PIR. I strongly suggest the shuttle to PIR. My daughter was a grad and go so we thought it would be best to drive...should have parked at the train station. We waited in traffic to get in the gate and it was really backed up. Although we were in the line of traffic approx 6:45 AM, we parked at 8:30. The shuttle is really your best transportation.
By having our vehicle, we were able to leave immediately to get to Midway Airport and spent a few hours with her before she flew to Pensacola. Without a doubt, the most special 3 hours that we had experienced since she left 8 weeks before.

Jim is absolutely right, the PIR ceremony is something that I will remember the rest of my life. When I looked out over that group of 970 young men and women who have VOLUNTEERED to serve our country and protect my freedom, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed with emotion. Then I realized something even more astounding...a group of this approximate number graduates every week. WOW! Naturally, I am proud beyond description that my daughter was a part of that group last Friday but even more than that, my confidence in the next generation is reinforced when I witness commitment like this.
May God bless them, every one!

I have to add the best picture that I have ever had taken of our family!

I have to give a Bravo Zulu to all the people behind the scenes that are able to transform young men and woman into proud responsible well trained Sailors. There is a new sense of belonging and pride in accomplishment that I noticed talking to him. After we dropped him off on Sunday (and the wife stopped crying) I told her that for the first time in his life I see he belongs.

So to everyone who's sons or daughters whom you have not heard from for two or three weeks, rest assured they are in good hands.

Yes, you can buy winter coats in Southern CA. We can get cold here, maybe 50 or so! HaHa. Can't wait to hear from our son. Maybe a phone call this week. Let us know if Springhill had a shuttle. We want to drive as little as possible when we come back there.

Scott, Congradulation on your sailor's PIR. Also for the tip on the shuttle we were debating whether we wanted to drive or not. Did Springhill have a shuttle?

My gosh and holy cow. What a ceremony. I have never been so proud of my son and my country. PIR is a must see for all. What a time for pride. 3 of our family and girlfriend spending 2 days with my son after hardly hearing from him for 2 months. Man had he lost weight ( he was not heavy before ). He has changed in many ways and grown up quite a bit. He is now a proud Navy Sailor. It was so cool going to Chicago and restaurants and malls and having people come up to him and thank him for his service. I have always tried to thank all military where ever I go but to see it happen and be your son or daughter...Now that's something.

Prayers for all new recruits and families. Hang tough. Karry...We stayed at the Sring hill Suites and its newer and very clean. Nice big flat screen tv's too !! My son just came back to out rooms and chilled and told us many stories about his time in boot camp. Some really tough,, sad and some really funny.

Get a shuttle to PIR for sure. We got in ahead of many cars. Make arrangements leaving though as its very crowded and crazy with everyone wanting to leave at once.
