No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Raul - Excellent! I hope our experience on 10/30/09 is as good as yours was.

4 days till our son leaves. Heading up to meet him and his mom at our place in northern Michigan in about an hour or so. He wanted to see if he could fill his bow deer tag before he left. I couldn't think of a better way to spend our last couple days together. :)

Raul - I saw your reference to NE PA and that you live in Wylausing. I live in Virginia now, but grew up just down the river from you - in Tunkhannock. I used to be friends with some of the folks in Laceyville. Small world!

HOOYAH!!! PIR is over and Adam is a real sailor. I cannot express the pride I feel not only for my son but for all 636 men and women who now are helping protect our freedom!
To recap: we left the Sprinfield Suites at 6:45 and were at the base in less than 10 minutes. Ask for directions at the desk. There were only 8 divisions graduating so getting in was not a problem. Everything ran smoothly and when you are going up and down the dividers it feels like Disney World. They will check you id's twice. Once in the car as you enter, then at the entrance to the building. The walk to the graduation site is long for anyone with disabilities.
The ceremony was emotional especially when the band played Anchors Away and the Star Spangled Banner. Seeing all those sailors in their dress whites was impressive. Take plenty of pictures and videos inside. I saw three separate incidents of people inadvertantly taking pictures outside but the security guards were very gracious and simply asked the people to put their cameras away.
After graduation he just wanted to relax and enjoy the time with the family. We went out to eat then came back to the motel. We'll just hang here for a while. He will be going to Pensacola in two weeks so we will be able to spend time with him on Saturday an Sunday.
God Bless America and all of our military men and women regardless of their branch!!!

Gentlemen,
Last week they had order forms for the DVD at the NEX on base. There are also Division pictures and Division shirts available as well...

Jack...in additon to taking a videotape, they video the ceremony and sell copies. Check to see where you can get them. Our sailor ordered his the same day he ordered his pictures so I'm not sure about how to order the same day. I also think that you cannot order them after the day of the ceremony. Double check. The video comes mailed to you about 4 weeks after.

Yes, you can video tape the ceremony.
