No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Raul, congratulations to you and your SAILOR son!
I just spoke to my son a few minutes ago. He is settled in at NTC and is having a blast. He got hooked up with a decent bunk mate, so he's happy. Only negative word is that he's got a 15 month wait for his A school ... ouch! That aside, he's very excited!

Raul - Awesome report. Keep them coming. I am glad we are planning on flying into Milwaukee. Good for Adam. Enjoy his PIR!

We are here in Waukegan! We are staying at the Springfield Suites and it is very good. The room is spacious with 2 queen beds and a sofa bed. Large flat screen, microwave, ironing board, small refrigerator, and free wi-fi. There are numerous restaurants within a 5 minute drive or a walk if it nice out as well as a strip mall with a Walmart and many other stores literally across the street. We will see how easy it is to get to the base tomorrow am.
We left northeast PA early this am and were able to use the EZ Pass all the way here. Ironically it was the first day for it in Ohio. So for those using the EZ Pass it was a breeze. The worst part of the drive was driving through Chicago. Our timing was awful as we got to Chicago at 3:30 and it was raining. It was difficult but we got here. For those flying I would suggest to seriously consider coming into Milwaukee. I cannot see the traffic being as bad from there.
Adam is now an official SAILOR in the United States Navy! As we were driving IN Chicago (accidentally) he called to inform us that Battle Stations were over and he had his NAVY cap. What a thrill! CANNOT wait until tomorrow.
He is exhausted and very tight lipped about Battle Stations. He just said, "Let's say I got wet". No further explanation. He is on the right course!

Jim, didn't mean to step over you on that. But like I said, after seeing 2 people have all their pictures destroyed, I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the consequences. I wish I could go back and experience that ceremony all over again. What a rush! Maybe someday with the grandkids if I'm still around.

Raul, I'm betting that no news is good news ... have fun this weekend!

Chris, we did receive the letter with the names on it in the box and we used the password to print the gate pass. That seems to be enough (I hope).
Andrew, we have not heard from him to the contrary so we are driving out to Chicago tomorrow. I did speak with his recruiter (who had been one of my students) and he said that he would not have necessarily called after Battle Stations. Wish us luck.
Congratulations to all our new sailors! We are very proud of all of you and we could not be appreciative for your sacrifice and service.

Raul, have you heard from you son yet?
Comment by Chris Wilkins on September 30, 2009 at 6:21pm
Raul,
I never recieved tickets for PIR. The first letter that we recieved from our son at bootcamp had a form letter with the names of four people that your child put on the guest list. There was also a password that you use on a website that gets you a parking pass. You can get to that link by going through the PIR Dates link on the right of this page...

Were we supposed to receive a packet with tickets for the PIR?

my advice (I've driven on base for one PIR and took the shuttle for the other)----- take the shuttle and let sonelese else deal with the traffic and all
