No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Well it's offical Samuel made it through battle stations. We got the call around 1:30 pm and he said he was exhausted and ready to relax and that he was looking forward to PIR on friday so that he can see us and spend a lil bit of time with us. Congrats to div 944 and all that passedbattle station today.

Hey George. Heard from my daughter on Friday afternoon also. I was surprised to get a call but she also starts week 3 today. We were so thrilled to hear that she's doing well and like your son, she brought us up to speed on all the things they've been through. She was very positive about things also. Sounds like both of our kids are going to be grad and go. She didn't know how much time that we'd get to spend together but that's okay...we'll get to see her PIR and whatever time we have will be great. Glad things are good with your recruit.

Edward, we stayed at Court Yard Marriot in Waukeegan and it was very nice and close to the base.
Be sure to ask for military discount. Most motels will give a military discount if you ask and tell them it's for the graduation.
We took the second shuttle from motel. I think it left around 6:30.

Well I was glad to hear my sons voice on Friday afternoon. He gave me the whole scoop on what he has been doing and how things are going. He says he misses home and everyone in the family but he will be ok. He just wishes his mates would learn how to march and stop getting themselves in trouble..lol!! He heads into week 3 today and he is upbeat about that since they start weapons training. Swimming went well and everyone did ok. He sounded sick and I asked if he was ok? He told me that everyone in the division was sick. I asked him if he went to sick call and hard headed like his dad, he said no I didnt but he was feeling better. I was a little upset at when he told me that he has already been told that he will not get any liberty after graduation day and that he will be on a bus to the airport several hours after graduation but as long as his family gets to see him graduate. All in all it was so good to hear from him and trust me he is missed every day.

Hey Andrew I bet that will be the last time he and his buds do that!!! But it is pretty funny.

Oh Yea! I'm sure after they worked them over they told all the other RDCs, and they all cracked up.

I'll bet the secretly RDCs loved it

I got a letter from my son and thought I'd share this one with you all.

I guess he and a couple of friends thought it would be funny to beat the RDCs to reveille. So, at 0600, when the RDCs entered their compartment and started rattling the bunks, my son and his buddies were standing at the toe line in white knee-high socks, their underpants and dixie cups singing "Anchors Aweigh"! He told me he is much stronger, since the incident ... LOL!

13 more days to PIR ... but who's counting!

We got the letter this morning it's official PIR 10/30/09 ship 10 div 370 my wife saw on navymoms that a PIR for 10/23 was changed to 10/30 so i'm sure it's gonna be a huge crowd. We are hearing stories about waukegan being a little ruff did anyone have a bad experience there. Or should we stay in gurnee?
Comment by Mark on September 12, 2009 at 2:32pm
Well I was right, we got our letter the other day. It was very upbeat. He still has his humor tough. He talked about his peanut butter shot, and his fifteen minutes of chow time. He also talked about his CPO's being a little less rough on them this week. He said it was raining there, but he always loved running in the rain.

It was just nice to hear from him.
