No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

For those of you attending a loved ones PIR, I can recommend staying at the Navy Lodge. Room, two queen sized beds for $65/night and NO TAX. Navy Exchange Convenience Store two blocks from hotel. Again no tax and cheapest fuel around. Rooms are clean and modern. Wi-Fi for $14 for a full week. All within 10 minutes driving of the base entrance. Courteous, friendly, and helpful front desk people.

Flannagans (sp?) is a good place to eat following graduation.

Hell Week - my son (9/11 PIR) writes that they woke up at 4am the first day for a fitness assessment, personal inspections, weapons turn over inspections, rack inspection, weapon simulator, weapons live fire, more inspections, and then they are all studying for a big academic test with the fear that they could get set back 2 weeks if they fail. Next up is firefighting and the gas chamber. Sounds like a very busy week indeed. The good news is the time will go by faster, the busier they are.

I was so mad at my wife when she answered the phone i took it and said Anthony he said " i gotta go" i looked at her so cross lol! But i'm ok now at least i heard his voice.
