No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

When you type your letters, add a note in your own handwriting.

Also, remember to scan their favorite candy wrappers and use that as stationery, its a hoot because they cannot have any candy, snacks...or sodas.

Hi Guys, I love coming back to this site and reliving the experience of boot and upcoming PIR . My son graduated boot on 01/09/2009 and has since graduated GM school and will be moving to Norfolk in October this year. It is an amazing ride the likes we as parents can not imagine. If any of you want to contact me for any input, please don't hesitate. I do have a comment about the PIR. When you are at the PIR make sure that some how, some way, you get the divisions marching into the parade hall. It is an experience the likes of which you will never see again. I did not get it for my son thinking I would order the one from the Navy exchange, but theirs does not have it either. It was THE most moving part of the ceremony when they open those overhead doors and your sailor marches in, well, make sure you have tissues ready. IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to all and Godspeed to our sailors.

Anyone have a recruit in Div 848 Ship 4? My son arrived GL last Monday. You know you can call the recruiter and get their address before you get the letter. We got my sons box yesterday with all hi stuff he took. Never thought I would be smellin his clothes on purpose!!! Weird huh?

We got the first letter today. No phone call yet. There are signs of a rough going but also one of confidence as he 'perseveres' through it all.

John .... Thats a great picture of you and your son. Mine has shaved his head now and is working out getting ready to leave for GL on December 1st. It's interesting to see his mind set changing as he's getting ready to go. We have to be careful not to count down the days, out load, when theres a problem with him. He's getting a little emotional about it now.
It's starting to hit home with all of us. We still can't believe he signed up in February and he is still waiting.

Yesterday I got 2 letters from my son, his 16th day in boot camp. It was great... He mentioned that he had already received my first letters, and I continue to write frequently. His mom got the 2 minute call on day 4 of boot camp and she also got 2 letters from him yesterday. Cannot wait to hear his voice of though know he will call when he can call...

Congrats to the new NAVY boot camp graduates.. Still looking for anyone on this site with a sailor in Ship 04 Div 846 with a PIR scheduled for 10-2...

I was looking at the graduation schedule, and if I'm doing my math right Zach should be graduating a week after my birthday!

Happy Birthday To Me!

That will be the best present I'll ever get
(other than maybe a grandchild, but that better not be for a long LONG time.)
