No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Oh...and to add tot hat...MEPS did process her through without a real SS card. She just had the verification forms. Her new card arrived after she had been gone a couple of weeks and we sent it to her.

Mark,

Poor Zach! To get all psyched up to go and only have it all pushed back a few days. The reason is interesting to me, however, because we had an SSN issue. Lauren, my daughter, had her original SS card all along through her DEP. The last time she had it was a MEPS visit she had to make a few months before going in. The day before she left, however, we could not find her SS card anywhere. Her recruiters told us that MEPS had been denying anyone without a real card, so we were worried. I took lauren to the local SS office where she applied for a new card and also got a form that verified her and her SSN. I then brought it to my office and had it notarized. her recruiters called MEPS and they said they woould accept her through with what she had. Soooo....what that really means is this is up to the individuals at MEPS when it all comes down to it. But yes...anyone reading this prepping their kids for boot camp...just make sure you have the original SS card.

Well yesterday was Zach's day to head out. We took him to the recruiters in the morning, and while he was giving his urinalyses his zipper broke. We all got a good laugh, and the recruiter said we could take Zach up to Cleveland since we were going to meet him up there anyway.

We had dinner together, and he kicked back in our room until it was time for him to hit the sack. We said our goodbyes, and after tears were shed he headed off.

This morning we got up, had breakfast and headed home. We were just about in our drive when we got a call from him. It was from the house phone. He said he and the other person heading out today were bumped until Wednesday because MEPS wouldn’t accept their certified Social Security card. Both their preparation book and the recruiters told them to bring a copy not the original, and the recruiter checked everything out yesterday.

So Zach is home again until Wednesday morning where he once again spends the night in Cleveland and flies out on Thursday.

I told him that’s the way it goes sometimes. One hand doesn’t know what the other hand is doing. This is the second time he has had the breaks put on, and I feel bad for him. He’s said his goodbyes twice now.

So whatever the recruiters say, TAKE YOUR ORIGINAL SOCIAL SECURITY CARD.

Good luck to all those son's and daugter's that will be attacking Battle Station 21 with my son and nephew at the end of this week. TG41 could use our prayers this week to get them through the biggest part of bootcamp. Going from recruit to becoming a SAILOR.......... GET' R DONE ! Good luck to all.

Thanks for that message. My daughter will be leaving for boot camp in a few weeks (9-9-09) so the nerves are starting to set in through the family. I woud be lost without all the feedback and information from this site.
