No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Wow! I'm glad Holly got out when she did. As many of you know she was set back 2 weeks when she got that crud that appears to be running rampant up there now. She PIR'd on 7/17/09 and while we were there we saw a lot of new sailors who were all sick and delighted to be getting the heck out of Boot Camp because of the illness running around. Sounds like it's getting a lot worse.

Depending on how long they stay that way it could set backthe division a week or two. This creeping crud will not go away it has been up there for several months and just keeps getting passed along, I'm not sure how they can stop it.

My son is on the same track (AECF) and was told he's a grad-n-go, so he'll go directly from BC across the street to where his A school will be. They said it will be approximately five hours for processing. I was told we might get a couple of hours with him on graduation day; however, the rest of the weekend he'll be ours ... well, during his liberty hours.

I would post that question in the Nuke group....if anyone would know, they would. I Think I remember reading once that all nukes were grad-n-go but I don't know for sure.

I don't know if this is the right section or what.
But our #2 son is getting ready to go to boot camp very soon. He is going to be on the nuc trac for ET. The question is do they do the grad and go or do they ship the Monday following?

I'm guessing that RTC has recruits coming out of their ears. The average PIR is approximately 600 sailors. With them skipping a week for the holiday back in July her class was 970+ sailors. Whenever we have an economic downturn military enlistment always goes up. I saw a news report right before Holly went in stating that all of the branches were having no problem exceeding their enlistment goals. Since the Navy only has one boot camp I'm sure that getting them in, trained, and out is becoming quite the shell game with the recruits.

I spoke with my son Blain Tuesday evening and he said he should be allowed mail Sunday (08/09). He said it is so intense you forget you had a life before BC and the letters are very important to remind them of back home. Blain asked me to send a letter, card or anything, as long as it is from someone back home and all the recruits feel the same way. We have written and mailed everyday and numbered them on the outside of the envelope also (today is #11) and when they start receiving mail I'll find out if any of his shipmates in Ship 4 Div 329 do not receive mail and post it here. Maybe we could write them a letter or two.

Ron, he wrote in his letter he has been there for three days and it was August 2nd ... it was postmarked August 3rd, you're right about it being Sunday. Geez, I wonder why it took so long to begin processing. I had his graduation date figured as September 25th, but I think I'm out by a week ... probably October 2nd. All this thinking and figuring out is beginning to hurt ... LOL!

Oh, I should have told you it was written and mailed on August 3rd and he thought processing was going to begin on the 4th.
