No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Ken, welcome to the world of Naval Dentistry. Someone has to help teach our Naval Dentists about tooth extraction. My son had his removed on his 21st birthday 29/01/09. He didn't mind it, he got to spend the day in bed taking some great meds. During the first year a sailor is in the NAVY, they will all have had their wisdom teeth extracted. Gary T.

My son Brandon, (Div 941), wrote in his 2nd letter to us that he had to have his wisdom teeth pulled. ouch! Said things are good getting better all the time. They're now finishing up they're 3rd week.

No doubt Mark, I ran into several families and graduates at our hotel and every grad had some sort of cough or chest cold. I don't know if it was because there were more them than usual since they skipped a week of PIR's or what, but they were all glad to get the heck out of there. I know it's why Holly was glad to get to Pcola with the weekend off. Of course I'm sure that being 18 without the old duffer or evil step-mom looking over her shoulder had nothing to do with it either! Snicker, snicker

I think you're right, Sandy. We got 2 letters today, and Karen (in Div 267) said that by the time we're reading them, she'll probably be doing fire fighting and the Confidence Chamber. One of my wife's friends on N4M posted saying that her son (also in Div 267) wrote that he heard their BS was next week. It looks like all the signs are pointing the same direction - next week for BS, then PIR! We're on pins and needles waiting for that phone call after BS! Karen loves her division. She talked about how proud they are now when they're marching down the street, and that she now feels like she can do anything in the world with no fear. She earned a ribbon for weapons, and she and another recruit got to stand at the top of the ship and direct their division during Marlinspike. Her sense of pride and confidence are really coming through in her letters! I'm so proud of her that I tear up just reading the letters - I'll probably be a basket case during PIR!

Everyone - along with writing, keep PRAYING for the health of the recruits. Karen was sick and spent an afternoon SIQ but was able to bounce back and catch up. Other moms and dads report similar stories of recruits being sick - just ask Kirk, who posted below!

Mark, it looks like they staert in week 7 and end in week 8. The first 4 divisions went last Friday and then nothing until Molly's division monday by themselves and then the other 5 I'm guessing will be split between Tuesday and Wednesday. Doesn't make sense anywhere but the military.

I should have elaborated. He ships out to bootcamp. Just found out he has arrived in Chicago. Now his real work starts.

Hi Steve, I'm not sure about the meet and greet we are driving up Thursday and may be too tired especially since Friday will be a long day as Molly is not grand n go and will spending the rest of Friday Saturday and Sunday with us, I'm sure she will keep us busy. However that said we may be so psyched and hungry we may just show up.

Hey Sandy, I will be at PIR this friday!!! I can hardly wait! My daughter is in div 254. My wife and I are planning on going meet and greet at Flannagans restaurant Thursday night as well. CONGRATS to all the new sailors!!!!!!
Comment by Kirk Brooks on July 21, 2009 at 5:05pm
Sandy-Congrats to you both!! They made the same announcement at last Friday's PIR. The performing divisions have to return their instruments and such. You may be delayed a few minutes but you'll at least avoid the madhouse Liberty Call rush.
