No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Sandy - Congratulations to you and Molly!! Hope your travel and PIR arrangements work out well for all of you, and that you have a great weekend with your daughter.

Question: Did Molly have her BS in Week 7 or this week? (We're trying to guess when Karen's BS, and subsequent phone call, might be.)

Again - have a great weekend and be sure to post a picture or two!

- Mark

The calls should start coming, Division 936 passed, they did Battle Stations by themselves so the remaining divisions will be tonight. Molly is now a Sailor!!! She said she wished I could have been there for the capping ceramony, it was very emotional. Can't wait to see her perform and give her the big hug she has been waiting for these past 8 weeks.
My only regret will be her divsion as the performing division does not march in with the others and during graduation they are actually in another room and are not in formation with the other divisions. The other thing she told me is her chief will tell the division 936 families not to rush to the floor on liberty call as they won't be there, they will come out after from another area so we won't get caught up in the stampede.

Yes...and to add to what Gary has stated...the "phase 2" length and restrictions are different with each command and school. So, it is best to wait until you know what the school/command regulations regarding cell phones, civilian clothing, etc.

CELL PHONES. My son had his P.I.R. on 13/03/09. Immediately after graduation my son was transferred to the A-School base. His liberty began once he moved. I was able to give him his phone once he left RTC. If anyone has a sailor who transfers over right after graduation there should not be a problem with a cell phone. Keep in mind they can not walk and talk on the phone in public. Phones are for off duty time. Clothing can wait until the sailor has passed his phase 2 which is about 2 weeks after transfer. Keep in mind a new sailor may move to two or three ships before starting actual A-School. It is important they not be loaded down with baggage immediately after graduation. It is a learning experience, one they will master in no time once they learn the program. Gary T.
