No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Oh yeah, it's ticking by slowly here. We signed up or the earliest shuttle from our hotel so I can get as close as possible. Does anybody know how they line up? Holly said her Division is in section 6 (Row 2 for her). I have no idea what that means. Apparently the hotels interact with the RTC's PAO a fair amount and the lady at the desk said there has been ton's of changes to Grad/Go this week and it's going to be a huge graduation. She said they were anticipating overflow crowds so hopefully the large size will buy me a little time. Keep your fingers crossed.

Kirk, well it's 7:30pm or 19:30 military time Thursday night, you must just be going nuts!!! Hopefully the Navy will screw up again and you will have some time at the airport with Holly. Looking forward to the photos, Molly wrote that she was on bed rest last week for 2 days, the creeping crud is everywhere up there. She does her battle stations Monday because she said to expect a phone call Tuesday. She said they don't get the Navy hat they get to put on their 8 point hat when the pass, ask Holly about that, that is in the few minutes you have. I sure do hope you get more but I know you will treasure every second, as will she. Good luck and congratulate Holly for me

Speaking of letters, my wife and I received our first letter from Brandon. This is he's 2nd week and 3 day. I was rather surpirsed to get a letter so soon. It was great to hear from him. He's already beginning to sound like a sailor. Said that things where looking better in week 2 versus week 1. Received new boots and got to break them in by running. Said Chief wasn't happy. haha. But did say Chief was happy with there marching. Brandon seemed in good spirits considering where and what he's doing. Oh also he mentioned the SHOT.................you who've been there at boot camp know what I'm talking about, hahaha. I can feel it now. ouch. lol

No doubt, we all worry more than they do. Remember when we were that age and knew we were indestructible? You'll be amazed at the difference in him when you start getting letters and then phone calls. It sounds like he's already a high performer but you'll still be blown away by how much more mature they sound and act. It is truly amazing. Best wishes to you and your son both.

Thanks for the support guys, I do know this is only the beginning. Well not even that... he's been in DEP almost a year already. Then after PIR it's off to Goose Creek for another 18 months of school (hopefully).
His recruiter told me I could check back in a little while, and they should be able to look him up in their database.
I'm on vacation from work for a couple of weeks, so I have even more time to think it than usual. I'm just really proud of him. He's been eager to get started... I'm the one who worries.

Just wait for his first hand written letter. It will all come together Lance. You will be proud of the changes you will see in Frank. Just get his address, write often and show him you support him and he will come through fine. Gary T.

Hi Lance, yes it is going to drag by. This reminds of when my Holly was born, months of waiting only to realize that it's just beginning. She PIR's in 2 days and then it's off to A school 'til the end of August. She gets 14 days of leave to come home and visit then she's off to the fleet.

Hi everyone, I just got "the call" I know my son is safe at RDC. I wish we had a chance to talk, but I know it's just the Navy's way of making him independent of his parents.
Now I'll just have to wait for his letter. It's going to be a looooong couple of months. For me anyway... LOL
