No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Hi Drew's Dad, he should know pretty quick if he's grad&go but that can always change at any given time. BTW, wow, Nuke School is a pretty tall order from what I've heard. That's pretty darn impressive.
Hey Sandy- Holly too, had athletic induced asthma that hadn't been an issue for a couple of years. The Navy asked for a clearance from our family doctor. He sent her for the spirometer test and they had her run on a treadmill while they measured her breathing. It only took a about a week to get it all done from start to finish and she was off to boot camp. Aaron and Holly started the entrance process at about the same time and he's still waiting and she PIR's this week. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, the military and the gov't do things their own way, in their own time.

Zach's date to go to RTC has been bumped back a month. Due to some foul-up in Cleveland. He and his recruiter were given the wrong dates.

It took a little out of his sails, but I told him to get use to it, and that month will go quickly.

(cutting the grass, washing my car, etc. . . )

Once again he rolled his eyes at me.

My son Drew is in Division 937 graduating on July 31st. I got a letter from him last week that he would hopefully call me Friday if his division did well during hell week. No call to me or his mom, so who knows how well they did! He is going to Nuclear School in Goose Creek after graduation from boot camp. Does anyone else have a sailor who is going to Nuclear School after graduation? I'd like to know if we are going to be able to spend any time with him after graduation or if he is grad and go. Thanks!

Sounds familiar, Molly made the mistake of putting down she had exercise induced asthma as a child, she had not been seen or treated for it in 8 years. Yet the Navy told her she needed to get a waiver from her doctor. Well of course the Doc wanted to see her since she had not seen her in 8 years. Molly was going to school in Springfield, Mo and the Doc was here is St. Louis. So all of that was three trips back and forth to St. Louis, then when she thought they had it all together, by this time she missed a lot of school so her semester was a wash they told her she had to be seen by a Navy approved doc that was not a military doctor by one at a hospital in East St. Louis. For those of you that know the area or may have seen it in the first vacation movie, well not the best neighborhood. So she comes back to St. Louis, 3 1/2 hours each way plus gas on all of these trips and when she gets here they say guess what you don't need to do this and by the way instead of delayed enlistment for 8 months you get to go in 2 weeks! Now we move all of her stuff that she is going to keep from Springfield to St. Louis, give away or sell her furniture and now the big day comes, guess what. She has a 100.6 temp and the cutoff is 100.5 so back home for 6 days until she finally reports to the hotel Memorial Day and ships out the next. The only nice thing about all of that was the last 6 days we got to spend a lot of time together because she had already said all of her good byes to friends to we went to ball games, movies, dinner, hung out. It was a great week for Dad but just made it that much worse when she had to leave. By the way took her to an expensive steak house the night before she was to leave originally and spent $175, told her the next week when she was "leaving" again we were going to White Castle!

The weird thing (To me at least) is that he's passed all of the physical exams at MEPS but they won't tell us everything he needs at once. He took his ASVAB's and did his physical in May but they keep sending the paperwork back one thing at a time. He makes an appointment, gets the clearance, and then they ask for another. Right now he's wondering if he wants to belong to an organization that can only make one decision at a time. I realize that it's a typical bureaucracy sort of thing but 2 and half months for three (Now four) clearances does seem ridiculous. At least this time the recruiter did ask for a doctor to give us a complete list. He's actually getting pretty mad at them himself. He says he hasn't seen them get like this before but who knows.

Don't give up. They put my son Tim through the same process about elbow surgery that he had a few years ago. The recruiter and someone above him actually went with Tim to our orthopedic doc while he was examined and given the ok. They are very serious about any previous medical condition. Tim got the ok and is in GL with 31 days to go to graduation. He passed all the physical stuff on the 1st go around. Good luck!

Ok, I have to laugh now or I'd be pretty ticked off, Aaron turned in his medical documents today and the now the Navy doctors want his medical records from a hernia surgery he had as an infant. This was done by an HMO we haven't belonged to in years. Aaron's about ready to toss in the towel and see if a different branch will be any easier. I can't really blame him.
