No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congrats to Holly and her proud Papa!!! S0rryyou will only have a few hours with her, although from what I hear it can be up to 7 or 8 at the airport. I'm exted for you and then 7 days later for me to see my Molly, looking forward to your photos.

Thanks Mark, I think she's the only one more relieved than me. She's in "A" School until Aug 26th. and then she's coming home for 14 days of leave and then she'll get her first deployment at sea.

That's terrific Kirk! Congratulations! After all she's been through, I can only imagine how relieved and proud you must be.

DIV 245 is good to go!!! Hooray! Holly just called, she passed her run on Monday, completed her firefighter training, and they did Battle Stations on Thursday/Friday.
She only has one hour of Liberty on the 17th and then it's off to the airport w/her. We'll follow along and see her off from there and then we're spending the weekend sightseeing. Batteries are charged, lenses are packed, and I'll be creating a PIR set on my Flickr account after graduation. I'll post the URL after I have it done. Needless to say, after all of the drama and stress around her being sick, I'm one proud (and relieved) Papa. Whew!! A very special thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and well wishes while Holly was sick. It meant a lot to me and to Holly.

I just got back from vacation. Steve called on 7/10 to say that he passed battle stations and will graduate on 7/17. Steve is in div. 242. I am one very proud dad. My wife and I are looking forward to PIR on Friday. Congradulations to Div. 242!

That group has been around for a long time Sandy...it is easy enough not to visit the group if you disagree with it's content. We're not going to limit the free speech (within reason) that is expressed.

I thought this was a haven for Navy Dads to talk about our kids and I now see someone started a Rush's ditto head thread, lets keep politics out of the site and write about our kids and their Navy careers, there are plenty of other forums for the political bashing.

I agree, I've got Holly's letters and I told her that while we be able to email much more I've really enjoyed the letter writing and plan on keeping it up. Some day we'll have things we can look back at enjoy some great memories.

Here is an idea for everyone, my mother saved every letter I wrote her from boot camp in 1969 until she saw me in the hospital stateside after I was wounded. She did not tell me she had saved them and then about 15 years later bundled them all up and gave them back to me. It was a very emotional few days as I read all the letters. I am saving my daughter’s letters plus scanning them and will save them to disk also. Once they go to A school they will have cell phones and call us, but while on sea duty we will get more letters. Just a thought but I still have those letters and every once in a while I will go back and read some to remind me of those that did not come back. My daughter knows what I have gone through and yet after almost 2 years of college made the decision to serve, I am so proud of her as I know all of you are of your sons and daughters.

I got a letter from Holly today but she had written it while she was sick and it actually just showed up today. We had talked to her since then so there wasn't any new info on her PFA run or other training. I was hoping it was maybe some good news on her run but not today I'm afraid. I guess it's still no news is good news. I was amazed by her attitude in the letter though. Nothing makes them grow up like boot camp, that's for sure. According to her letter she only has 2 hours after PIR and then she ships out so we're hoping we'll have some time at the airport but who knows. Anything is better than nothing though Six days and counting.
