No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Hi Jeff, great news on Corey, my daughter Holly is also slated for PIR on the 17th. She had all the crud too. Hopefully we'll hear from her soon but on her last call she didn't think she's be able to call again before PIR. Best of luck to all of them on Battle Stations.

Corey just called and said he had finally passed everything now waiting for battle stations( he thinks Sunday)I was so glad to hear from him had not talked to him since 5/19. his div 246 grad 7/17. He said he and a lot of others have been sick cold, flu ,etc. hope they all are well now.

Hi Sandy, sounds like things are going great for her. Holly really liked the live fire training as well. As far as a hair straightener is concerned, I'm about 99.99% sure they won't allow that. As far as I know letters and photos are the only things you can send. In fact with Holly being delayed I just sent her my 12th letter. She said that between family, friends, and church family she's been getting more letters than anyone else in her division and it's made a huge difference. BTW, the clock is really cool.

Make your own Countdown Clocks

More letters from Molly, she said since she Yeoman of Ship Staff now she will not have to stand guard over the graduation weekend, so we will get to spend more time with her. She wanted me to send her a hair straightener but I'm sure they would confiscate it. I'll talk to her recruiter today. She loved the live fire and aced everything but did receive 1 gig on the wti inspection, sometimes she tells me what the letter mean but not this time. If it was wtf I would know what it means. She has always hung with the guys so living with this many girls is a new thing for her, she talks of the "drama" and how she will be glad to get sway from it. Her A school is a very small class of around 25 and usually only 5 or 6 of them are in the Navy, the other slots are, Army, Airforce and Marines. A little concerned that no one has canvassed the neighborhood, hope her clearance isn't delayed too much. I know lot's of sailors sit at P-Cola waiting on clearance to start school, in the Army we called that a SNAFU! Not sure what they call it in the Navy. I will post a countdown clock by itself.

What ship number would Div 941 be? I notice above in the Discussion Forum there ship numbers for each Div. I know he's in the USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides.

GP...I appreciate the coments. I guess we will just have to wait and see...reminds me of my old Sailor days...Hurry up and wait!!!
Kirk...I'm sorry to hear that Holly ended up G-n-G. I've been following your story and I'm really glad she's back on track and didn't lose her A school. I just can't believe that you're only a week out already from the big day. I can totally sympathize..because I too am getting older and truly enjoy the scheduling, planning and control that now I no longer have either.....

Any time you get to spend with your sailor is positive time so keep a positiv e attitude and plan to be flexible! If you adapt well, you may get a couple extra hours at the airport.....check the PIR-Tips group about getting a security pass so you can spend time with you sailor at the gate. Not like spending all weekend with your sailor, but certainly better than saying goodbye at the security checkpoint.

Hi chris GP's right, you have to plan for the best and be prepared for the worst. Holly went from full weekend Liberty w/ her first div assignment to grad/go with the new one. We booked flights and rooms for the full weekend and then found out we'll only have the afternoon/evening of the 17th with her and then she ships out on the 18th. We're not even sure if we'll be able to leave the base because of her maybe standing watch somewhere in there. I'm used to being the one to make all the plans and all the typical dad stuff but they belong to the navy now and we can't call the shots anymore. Getting older is depressing huh ;)
