No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Chris...when you receive your letter with the parking pass for the base, it should state in the paperwork that your sailor is a Grad-N-Go if that determination has already been made. However, when my son graduated he told me that a few of his division were made Grad-N-Go's the last week of boot. It all depends on the job they are in for, the starting dates of classes, the logistics of getting them assigned to their new bases on time, etc. Basically as we have heard too frequently, it depends on the "needs of the Navy" at that present moment. If unfortunately your recruit is a G-N-G, you will get to spend time with him/her at the USO at the airport up until their flight leaves. I know from a few friends of mine that went through it that it was only about 6 - 8 hours, but it was the best hours they ever spent with their child. All I can say is don't get discouraged and hang in there. The recruits don't even know what is going on from minute to minute. My son did not know what his situation was until 2 days prior to graduation. He did however mention that more G-N-G's were in the 200 divisions when he was there. Keep the faith!

Ok All....My wife has asked for some assistance from NAVYDADS. Apparently there's quite the debate on N4M in regards to if the Form Letter is also the Grad Pack. It seems to revolve around the lack of info on Grad-N-Gos. Most of them are still 40 days out from PIR and the confussion on reservations, flights, etc. has everyone on edge. Any info would be appreciated.

Good to know on the 900 DIV, guess I got some bad info...thanks

Thanks for all the comments on the 900 Divisions. That makes more sense to me now. Yes both boys scored high and have guranteed jobs and A schools. Both went to College for a few years also, the last year doing classes that the Navy wanted them to take.....Kirk good luck to Holly, we're pulling for her.

I would imagine that writing letters was the last thing on her mind. The thing about Holly and I is that not only is she my youngest, but she's my only daughter, so I get a little freaked out when I can't fix problems. Only dads with daughters, understand the relationship between dads and daughters.

She probably did not have any writing material while in the infirmary. Just a bed and a cough bucket!

Thanks Sandy, Holly should've done her run by now and we haven't heard anything so that should be good news. If they get to run everyday as part of their PT then she should be ok. I hope she gets to make the post Battle Stations call but after our last conversation she didn't think that she'd have time to call before PIR. We haven't received any letters in a while either so we're just having to suck it up 'til PIR.

I;m thinking now that since Molly is on ship staff and working evenings I may not get another phone call from her, possibble letter day today so I'll catch up that way. See if she gives me any details on the physical assement tests, and inspections. The letter will have been written before the exam this past Monday. I guess Battlestations 21 will start Monday the 20th with a cabability of 4 divisions a night they will be done by Wednesday, reherse for graduation Thursday and Friday will be the big day. 15 days until we leave and counting. Kirk, hope Holly is Hanging in there

I did some research via Google as I was curious about this and I found the same info as Sandy. It did seem they were predominantly the performers, (band, choir, etc.) I didn't find anything on those who went in undesignated.
Comment by Sandy "Sandman" Berger on July 8, 2009 at 7:40am
I disagree 900 divisions are for a couple of kind of people, the folks who scored real high on exams and they feel can get through without extra help and can handle extra jobs are put in to some 900 divisions and also all of the performing recruits that will be in the choir, band or drill team. This is what the recruiter told me so take it as you may.
