No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Jim...I thought 900 was Band, Choir, Honor Guard, etc. Just as 800 was Special Ops. I wasnt aware that anyone entered BC without an A school. At least when I was in that didnt happen but we all know how 20 years can change things!! LOL

Just found out today my son and nephew ended up starting week one yesterday. So that was great news. Also heard they are in the 900 Division. lol Does anyone have any good info on that division. I'm still shaking my head on this one. lol How those two pulled that one off. My nephew does play the trumpet, by my son, he plays the piano on the side, I just never thought he'd get in the 900 Division.............

Thanks GP! We finally got a letter on Monday. It does take a long time for a letter to get to New Jersey.

Debbie: Sorry for late response. Things going crazy. I too am from NJ. Don't be surprised about lack of letters especially towards the end. The amount of pressure they are under to make sure EVERYONE in their division passes is very timeconsuming. My son told me that his division was trying to win the Hall of Fame award which is given to the division that finshes first in all catagoris so that every spare moment was spend on improving their scores. They won all but one, losing the last catagories by .002 seconds. Talk about heartbreaking. But he said it was the best feeling he ever had, even better than his highschool sports days. The "team" concept is so different. Also, he said that a lot of his division had problems with letters to the east coast. Don't know why that is, but he said is happened. Also, he stated that "no news is good news"! As far as phone calls, we only received 3. The initial 15 second one on the day he arrived, another one 3 weeks later, and the final one after he passed Battle Stations to tell us he was now a sailor. That call came the Wednesday night before Graduation. All I can say is hang in there and if I can help you out with anything, just let me know.

Great news Joe, glad he could stick it out. They seem to really motivate them to stay with it. Holly said they had her on Mucinex and fever busters for her bronchitis, and it wasn't until she was up all night throwing up from coughing so much that they finally made her check into the Infirmary. Then they loaded her up on antibiotics and she started getting better. Tomorrow is her next opportunity to pass the run so here's hoping and praying she makes it. Keep your fingers crossed ;)

Does anyone have a future sailor graduating on July 24th, Molly is in Div 936 graduating that day.
Comment by Kirk Brooks on July 4, 2009 at 11:57pm
Hi Sandy, It was wonderful to talk to her, and as I said, I'm still a little nervous since she's still sick. She said she wasn't sure if she would get to call again before PIR, but she was doubtful. I guess it's still the same old "No news is good news" for us. As Recruit Petty Officer Molly's level of accountability is probably higher than the others so she may be paying the price for other recruits issues. It's a bad deal for you but in the long run it's got to look good on her Navy record. Good luck to you and her both, I hope you hear from her soon.

Happy 4th to all, Kirk I'm so jealous, other than the first phone call asking for more references to be faxed to someone up there and our one major phone call two weeks ago we have not heard from Molly other than by letter. I try to keep the cell by me at all times and the couple of times I left it in another room and there is a missed call I freak out. So far no more calls , I understand they get 3 calls during basic but I don't know if the "I'm a Sailor" call counts. I'm sure she is busy this weekend between the choir practices and the big exam on Monday I'm sure she won't have much time to relax. No graduation this coming week, Kirk hopefully you will be able to email a photo of the choir from the week after. Less than 3 weeks tick...tick...tick
