No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Chuck...I hope you get something soon!
I was beginning to wonder how much longer the wifey could hold out. I think she was losing it a little more each day. This week has been the turning point though. We got his "kid in a box - minus the kid". Was kinda hard rifling thru his stuff. Then yesterday we got his form letter with the few lines he could write on it and it was awesome. We thought that was great until a little envelope fell out of the middle of a magazine and we realized it was his first letter. I must tell you, there's a certain relief that comes when you can finally receive word from them. He seems in really good spirits and not too homesick at all. A few comments almost lead me to believe he is starting to enjoy his experience. It was like a weight had been lifted. My wife said she just got her "Christmas in July"!! We finally got a good nights sleep. This morning brought an even greater sense of pride which I wasn't sure even possible. :-)

I'm not sure but from what my daughter has written since she was AROC she had to make sure all of the girls and guys were in line but since they bunk if different areas she got the girls 24/7 and once stated I get along with all the girls but they all hate each other. Apparently a girl accused one of the guys the RCPO of something, I as of yet do not have any details, my daughter said it was a lie, but as we all know there are 2 sides to each story. When I went to basic in the Army we had the same crap and it was all guys. Who ever was recruit Sergeant in charge never held the job for more than 2 weeks because of someone else’s screw up.

Sandy--- I can remember having some pretty heartfelt discussions with my golden retriever.......

Did we mention that bootcamp was filled with lots of ups and downs? Our daughters are from tough stock and they survive the pressures.....

Received a couple of letters from Molly today, apperantley they can write on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday but can only mail them on Sunday. This is hell week for her and they are probably done with all of the hard stuff by now. She wrote i=of in fighting and rumors about the RCPO got the entire recruit staff relieved, that upset her to no end as she was ARPO, 2nd in command and did nothing wrong but was let go with all of the other staff positions. Welcome to the Military and team work, that's what it's all about. In any case the 2nd letter 2 days later was much better and she assigned byher RDC to ship staff, something to do withthe area where are the head NCO's and officers are. Not sure what her job is there but she said you need to be ship shape because that is an area that demerits can be given out because you are so visable. I think it also means she has less time to study so she said she really needs to pick up things the first time and quick. The first letter was heart breaking, she went on an rant and talked of finally being homesick and the last of the girls to break down and cry, plus her freinds don't understand the pressure on her so write of their relationship problems and other stuff she does not need to know about right now. Just sent off a letter of reassurance and reminding her to not put it on cruise control and continue to do the best she can, in the Army we say be all you can be, in the Navy I think they say dam the torpedoes full speed ahead!
My wife is gone for three weeks back just in time to leave for PIR so the Dog got to hear and earful from me today.

I'm happy all worked out for you Kirk. I know how difficult it can be with a daughter at Great Lakes that is on a medical hold for PIR. Kat was laid up for weeks with stress fractures and severe shin splints from all the drill and marching. It was a stressful time for me and I cannot imagine how dealing with lodging issues would make the situation any less conflicted! It is nice to see that the Ramada realized that their response to your issue was not in line with what we would expect from a business with the Ramada name. I hope all will at least consider the Ramada for their lodging needs while in the Great Lakes/Waukegan area. I have not stayed there so I have no experience with them....however Eric's mom stayed there for his PIR and as far as I know she was satsified with her stay.

Let's all concentrate now on getting Holly through Battle Staions and to PIR ! HooYah!

We got more letters today - yea! Karen said she is PFC in her division (267). Can anyone tell me what that means?
Comment by Kirk Brooks on July 1, 2009 at 1:12pm
Just got what I hope is good news. Holly's recruiter just called to let us know that she is now DIV245, ship name John F. Kennedy. Hopefully this means she's recovering well and can complete her training soon. Cross your fingers and thanks to everyone for their prayers and well wishes.

Hello Chris (Matt's Dad) My son Charles (we call him Matt) is in his first week also. He arrived on the 26th. We have not been able to find out what ship he is in yet but I am pretty sure he is in Division 288. We are still waiting for his package also.
