No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congrats to all the new Sailors!!! I can't wait to be in your shoes - waiting on & receiving the "I'm a Sailor" call :)

There is a Meet & Greet at Flanagans on 6/18 from 6-10 pm for PIR 6/19. Everyone is welcome :)

Carl - that is a great call when you get it.

Moms and Dads get anxious, and the new sailors are happy excited - sometimes it takes them a few hours before they make the call.

Congrats to all the new sailors . . . and their families for hangin in there with them . . .

Div. 930 should have finished Battle Stations by now. Has anyone gotten any calls?

Jeff and others -

There normally is a meet and greet event organized by one of the Navy4Moms groups. On June 18, there is one being organized by a
Michelle Z.

Also in the Discussion group above started by Kurt you will find some other dads who have the same PIR date you can connect with.

Flanigans is not fancy, our experience was o.k. If your looking for gourmet food and exotic drinks - its not. It is a chance to meet other families of new sailors, share stories, find some with a sailor going to the same A school, etc.

PIR is a once in a lifetime kind of good event. Pride, tears, joy and seeing your youngster transformed into a pretty focused young adult . . . . enjoy

My son Eric is in DIV 830 their PIR is 6/19. Is there any other parents that would like to meet at Flanigans Thursday night before the PIR? DIV 224-227 & 830-831 & 931 are all graduating 6/19. I have read that many of the PIR parents meet there the night before the graduation. We plan on being there if anyone else is interested see you there. God Bless these young men and women and we pray for their safety and for Gods plan in their life!

Thanks Jim. PIR was all that and more. Being at the Midway Memorial bldg (drill hall) on the memorial weekend for the Battle of Midway was extra special. About 25 SAILORS on John's plane to P-cola. I heard from John and he said the retired Chief Petty Officer that happened to be on the flight with them kept them entertained and informed all the way to Atlanta. Just proves the Navy family is one that is close and keeps on giving and growing more successful all the time.
