No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Kirk,
Can you find someone to trade with you? I highly recommend you attend graduation. It is something to see but mostly to experience. You will be surprised at the changes in your daughter for the positive.

I'm going to do my best to make it. My biggest problem is that the company makes us declare our vacation in January and we didn't know Holly was going in back then. I think I can get a little pushy with them if need be but it's a union environment and if they're in the mood to stick to the contract it could get tough. Also, we were merged 4 years ago and there's still a lot of "Us versus Them" mentality in the lab were I work so trades are non-existent. If I can't make it I'll still send my wife with the camera. Wish me luck!

Kirk, we experienced the same situation with the picture taking. While I was driving, my sister innocently took a pic outside of the main gate entrance while we were waiting our turn to drive in. We were signaled to pull over to where a stern Marine was who informed us to delete the pic we just took. So, like Jim mention, pictures are only allowed in the graduation hall.
Hopefully, one of your co-workers who have less important plans for the 4th of July weekend will adjust their plans so you can attend your daughter's PIR. I hope it all works out for you!

Congrats to all of your recruits with up coming PIR's!!!

Kirk,
I tell you what not that I would recommend this but I used an old navy term with my manager when it came to taking time off for George's PIR. I said I was taking "Weather Leave" Whether they gave it to me or not. Boss got a good laugh and I got the time off.

I'm going to have to do some scrambling at work to get the time off myself. With her PIR on July 2, there are tons of people who have already requested the Holiday off so I may be hosed. If I do get to go I'll be taking tons of pictures. Hopefully I'll be able to get some good shots of the facility as well as the graduation.

Otto . . . I will be a heat seeker on that day, and it cannot get here quick enough. Remember . . . if you get a chance to shoot the choir (with your camera), I would LOVE to see what you get!
