No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Kirk. Just keep sending her letters. They feed them well at GL, but our recruits live off the continued support from the ones they care most for. I believe, after looking back at the letters I sent my son, I used the phrase "I'm so proud of you" on average three times per letter. I get to see him next Friday PIR. I am so proud of him.

John...count on us 5 June'ers to keep the seats warm for you on the 12th.!

Welcome, Kirk! It sounds like her attitude will carry her through! Got to be thankful for that, no doubt! My son will go through his PIR on June 12. Can't wait! He has the same attitude!!

My daughter Holly is in TG 33 DIV 236. Just got our first letter from her.(Yay!!) They are scheduled for PIR on July 2nd. Anybody else out there with a son/daughter in this TG/DIV? She said she's having a few problems but she's got a great attitude and she's gone after this with a real passion so I'm sure she'll be OK.

All - We visited our son at Great Lakes this past weekend and had a couple great experiences. Took him to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field on Monday - I called ahead last week and paid $50.00 for a message to be posted on the score board welcoming him. It was awesome. He was in uniform and a bazillion people thanked him for his service. At O'Hare on Tuesday my wife and I were in line at McDonalds and a young Marine was in front of us. An airline pilot shouldered his way to the front of the line, leaned over and thanked this young man for his service and bought him his breakfast. It brought tears to my eyes. It was a real nice thing to do and a real example to the rest of us.

WE in here should all be SO proud of our sailors. We wiil have a fine fleet of sailors sailing the seas for us,upholding what others have given us the rights we have. I am so proud to say I have a SAILOR again in the family. (I am somewhat partial to AIRDALES however) BUT we all work together for what we have and to uphold that for the future SAILORS to carry on.
