No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Catching the Cubs would be terrific ! But it would need to be a day game
due to liberty ending in the early evening each day. Tony - Saturday or Sunday might be better than Friday. Traffic in and out of GL for the PIR is pretty hectic. When we were there in April it was about 40 minutes driving to downtown (and we were not native - relying on a GPS and a rental car).

There are a number of things to do in the area, Chicago has great museums and the Navy Pier is entertaining. . . .

CONGRATS TO THE NEW SAILORS ! ! ! And it gets better as our 'kid in the box' becomes an adult ( well . . . a young adult)

Excellent, Richard. Proud of you both. Meg for becoming a sailor and you for supporting her.

Hey everyone, check out the Navy News front page to see Division 929 marching at Janesville Wisc on Memorial Day. They are the TG 29 class graduating along with my son's Div 210 on 5 Jun

I was hoping to catch the Cubs when my daughter graduated but they were not in town that weekend. There are links on PIR group to help you.

It is possible to catch a game but only if it is a matinee. Usually, liberty ends before the end of a 7:05 start game. Have fun. I would probably take the train to the game given you do not want him to be late returning and traffic can be pretty bad.

My son and nephew are headed to boot camp July 2nd and looking when he graduates, Aug. 28th, being the big baseball fan that we are, I was wondering is catching a game with our newest sailors at Wrigley field doable? How far and how long does it take to get to the field from the Great Lakes? The Cubs have a 3 game series with the Mets that weekend, would Friday or Saturday be best if possible? Just planning ahead. Thanks Go Navy!

Saw all the videos on youtube. Looks like A schoolers. Recruits would not have had rank insignias, that much freedom... and saw one smoking and that is a definite nono at boot camp.
