No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Received a letter from George yesterday. Guess someone feel asleep in the head so they got mash'd (make a sailor hurt) for an hour or so... always seems longer than it really is. Seems in good spirits.

it was kind of neat when my son got our of gl's and went to p-cola. he was gandg but when he did get home he entered into a discussion about the different weights of irons and the temperatures used to iron with the different weights. That must be why the girls flock around the sailors.

Hi John,

How are you? I didn't see your other comment about the cubbies, we don't really care who they are playing, just a nice day outing for our new sailor who used to be a Varsity baseball player! Hopefuly a nice sunny day to sit and watch a ballgame! We are lucky in that he has called a few times already due to some paperwork problems that had to be worked out. So at least we know he is happy and working hard. I was especially pleased to hear him say he needed to go because he had some ironing to do. Man oh man did that make me laugh.

Hi Robert, My son is also in USS ARLEIGH BURKE but DIV 218. So far I have received three letters from him and things seem to be going well as far as I can tell. He was a little upset getting fired from his job due to getting a cold and being unable to call cadence, but knowing him I am sure he is working hard to both get over his cold and get his job back! I am looking forward to the 12th!

Hi Robert! Can you tell me what is unique about an 800 division? My son is in a 900 division, so I understand what that is about.

To the Boot Camp Parents: We just got back from PIR. May 1st. You were not kidding. It was Great !! Of course we thought that our son was standing just a little taller than everyone else. We are now the proud parents of a Navy Sailor. You will be just as proud when your recruits become Sailors. The time goes faster than it seems at first. Just hang in there and tell your sons and daughters to do the same. They need to leave Great Lakes(our son said Great Mistakes) with a basket full of letters from home. HOOYAH and BRAVO ZULA to your recruits. Thanks for all the answers we asked and we are not done asking for help it will just be at a new station.
