No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Stan I think your date is wrong. Check on the home page of Bootcamp and look at upcoming graduations. It lists div. 202 to 209 plus 298. My daughter is in div 205 ship 12 and that is her date of PIR.

Sorry to here that Jim,my Son Patrick wanted to be a Jet Mechanic and he also found out he had some degree of color blindness at (MEMPS) so he is now going to me a aviation mantenance administration instead so he can still work around the jets

To you boot camp Dads - I'm thinking about you. Those first couple of weeks are the hardest. Once you start hearing from your kids it gets steadily easier. Now nearly every Friday I think about the families converging on RTC and the incredibly proud feeling of seeing your son or daughter out there on the parade floor. I will never, ever forget that moment. Danny' in A school now and doing well - we still miss him but it's a lot easier than boot camp. You all take care and hang in there - and pray for your kids every single day.

Congrats on the phone call! Still waiting patiently for mine. My son, Mark, is in TG29, Div 213. Anyone else have a recruit in Div 213?

Joe G... It was great, but oh such a short call. Only about 4 minutes. But what topped it off was I got a letter from him when I got home that same day. Come on over to the TG 29 Div 210 discussion forum. John Walsh and I have been talking as we have boys in Div 210, but join in as we are also discussing the 5 June PIR Anyone else for 5 June PIR jump in as well.

WooHoo!! Got a phone call from my son. First one since he went in. Said his division (210) was doing well and looks to be on track for 5 June PIR. Sounds like they will be at battlestation early (week 5). Bad news he thinks he'll be grad-n-go. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks, Geobots2! My wife and I talk about that a lot so that we can get used to it. I think we are ready for that.

Just a reminder to everyone a term we will all have to get used to over the life our kids career is NEEDS OF THE NAVY. I can't tell you how many times I got hit with that in my Navy career. Grad and Go... Needs of the Navy, PCS (Permanent Change of Station)... Needs of the Navy. Many, many times. Normally the grad and go will know something ahead of time, however there are those times when they are told one thing prior to graduation then good ole Needs of the Navy jumps up and Yells Unh Uh. BE FLEXIBLE
