No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

P.S Also, just a suggestion, but once we found out where James would be boarding,we went and found a gate where there was no flight out and we had the 5 of us all to ourselves for about 2 whole hours. It was great!

Hi bill and Jim. We just got back from PIR 11 days ago and we were able to see our son James all the way to the gate as a grad and go.
We ended up at the USO prior to his arrival and the kind folks there told us if we met James and went to the ticket counter with him before he got his ticket ,that we would be able to get a special pass to accompany him to his gate of departure. We had to got thru security just as if we were boarding the plane ourselves. There were 4 of us,father, mother, brother and aunt and we had no problems.James left G.L.at 1300 hours and was at O'Hare at 1400 hours so you don't want to dilly dally around to much once you leave G.L after graduation. Not to sure about the extra security right now,but if for some reason you can't get thru, you and your sailor can stay and visit at the USO. The folks we met there were very nice and helpful.O>K. to much talk for now . Good luck and a safe journey.
Steve !!!!!!!!

John, My guess is we might get 5 total letters if we are lucky. George buries himself in everything he does. Letter writing ... not so much... Congrats on the letter.

Hey all!!! Headed to GL tomorrow to see my boy's PIR!!! Yeah!!!

Bill, my son is a grad & go and I'm going to try real hard to get to the gate with him -- I want to savor every moment. I'll give you an update on Monday and let you know if I got through!!

No . . . we actually got a real letter from him today! It was sweet!! It's amazing . . . he misses us!

John... I guess that rock band video was worth the money... George was a bass throughout High School so knowing him he will try to do both if they would let him. Was your letter the bottom portion of the form letter?

Geobots2 . . . got a letter today from Mike. He said he is singing tenor in the division choir. Had to check the return address to make sure it was from my son:)
