No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

I got "the call" at 7:47pm CST tonight. Mike said, "I arrived safely. I will be sending a package and a letter in about a week." He also said he had 2 minutes, but we were ready . . . we only took 31 seconds!!

Actually I think i read somewhere that at Great Lakes smoking is prohibited anywhere on the base by anyone.

Hi John, I'm actually a navy mom and no they cannot smoke at boot camp or while on liberty at PIR. Tobacco products of any kind are strictly prohibited. Cigs, chewing tobacco, lighters, matches -- all confiscated.
Comment by Otto Mueller on April 15, 2009 at 6:50pm
absolutely not. Smoking at RTC is forbidden even for visitors. Not inside, outside or even in a vehicle.

A question borne from ignorance . . . can the recruits smoke while at Boot Camp?

Joe ,as Otto said the letter is separate and you should be getting it soon if your son arrived on Fri. My daughter meghan got to BC on Mon6Apr and is at this point due for PIR on 29 May09. Later on check to the right of this postings and look at PIR dates and you will be able to see when Joe is due to graduate

Joe the letter is separate and sometimes doesn't arrive till the next day It will have a couple of lines from your sailor and his correct mailing address but it's mostly form letter with stuff that you should know.

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to share--spoke with Ryan, PIR 5/15 Div 194, last nite. It was a wonderful surprise to hear from him. He stays he is doing well and his div is cool. His bunkmate is from Philadelphia, so he has common ground. I live in Philadelphia during the week and Baltimore on the weekends. He says his days are long. He gets mail everyday, but only can respond on Sundays. He is very thankful for the letters. He cant believe that he graduates in may. The comments hear are great. I get to feel somewhat connected to him. Just wanted to share.
