No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Hi Navy Boot Camp Dads!! I'm a Navy Recruit mom with a boy in boot camp -- PIR 04/24-DIV 167. Yes, I'm already on N4Ms, but I couldn't help coming over and saying "hi"... I hope you don't mind an interloping mom... I would LOVE to hear from others in the same DIV or with the same PIR date.

Congrats Steve. We are counting down to May 15 now ourselves. We live 60 miles north of Gulfport and can tell you there are some good small town people there as well.

Good day to everyone.Just got back from Great Lakes. What an experience!
It was a long three days to spend only a couple of hours with James, but we would do it all over again.James left for Gulf Port at 4:30 Friday afternoon so there was not much time. One great thing though was that the USO said if we could find James before he got his ticket processed the family could get a special pass to get thru security to visit until he boarded the plane. Got us about an extra hour and well worth it!
We went into Chicago Saturday to see the sites. Rode the train and my youngest son wanted to got o a resturant he had seen on T.V. so we to the El train and city trans. buses over near midway airport. Lots of very nice ppl.in that town, and that coming from a someone who lives in a town with a population of75. (not a big city person). Got back to the motel at 2 A.M and boarded the plane 3 hours later. Needless to say we got about 10 hours sleep in 3 days, but again we would do it all over again. Pics to follow. Happy easter to all...

Hello G2 (let me know if that is not an acceptable nickname:) . . . My big boy begins blazing his trail April 15 also, from St. Louis. We are having a big bash after church on Easter. Should be fun. Let's keep in touch!

Well the time is finally drawing near. G3 (acceptable nicname) reports April 15. He is more excited then he will let on, but I can tell. Are they issuing the new uniforms to the sailors now. Seems to make sense that they would. I will now be more active on the site. Twenty six years ago I blazed the trail now my oldest blazes his own. I hope he has twice the fun I did and gets twice as much out of it. I have not set foot in GLAKES since the day I left boot camp. Looking forward to seeing all the new amenities in June sometime.

Jim just opened mail ref. the missles., yes it was a long time ago some 45- 47 years ago. At the time I was 19 and had NO idea what the whole thing was about, how close we were war. It was just 12hrs flying and 12hrs off although taking the pics was fun coming in over ther ship at about 50 ft off the water and shaking up some crew of the ship

Jim thanks for the info. As to high tech a LOT of todays military is way over what I did. Things changed just as I left VP21 , new planes (P3's) and the newer search options. At least my rate is still working (AMS) although combined with AMH.
