No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

I forgot to mention something my son said in phone call. I told him I had joined this group. He asked me to let you all know. DO NOT SEND MU
SICAL CARDS. He said a recruit in his division recioeved on the other day and had to do physical Training PTs until batter died.

My family, all five went to graduation ceremony, April 3rd, and we all had a great time. Seeing my son become a Navy man and sensing the confidence he has gained was all a dad could ask for. I am sooo proud! Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, they paid off greatly, Shuttle, photos, time with grad. Only shortcoming was not enough time, so treasure it all, plan accordingly.Friday, we went to Chicago to walk and find a good steak, try Murphys Pub on Wabash Street, old famous, great service and great food. We tried to see the U-505 German U boat at the Museum of Industry way down on Lake Shore Drive, but it closes at 4:00 pm. All in all it was hectic travel and stressful to say hello and good bye it such a short time period. My son and I got a Division sweatshirt, which I wear proudly, mom got a nice photo package, beautiful! Thanks again and God Bless to all.
Go Navy!

I recieved a phone call from my son yesterday what a Rush. He has only been gone since March 16. It was so good to hear his vioce and positive attitude.
I spent 28 years trying to get him to just hang clothes on hangers after drying instead of throwing on ped in pile. Boot Camp has him folding and ironing them in less than a month. WOW

Thank you so much, I just don't know how I'm going to make it until next Friday, lol. I will definitely post pics of PIR and share our experience. If we can be of any help to any new boot camp parents we are more then happy to answer any questions.

Bravo Mari--- I was just wondering how your sailor was doing as I realized PIR must be right around the corner. Expect a call after battle stations-- he'll be pooped but on cloud nine for having completed stations. Get set for PIR-- take the tissue box as you and Luis will need it when your sailor marches through that big rollup door! HooYah!

My son will be doing battle stations this Sunday evening and hopefully is scheduled for PIR next Friday. Please keep him and all the other recruits in your prayers as they prepare for this wonderful conclusion to their boot camp experience. Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter.

How true we were told "No news is good news" and while we beleive it it is stll hard. But what a relief to hear not only his voice but an enthusiasm in it.

I can second the "no news is good news" comment: when they spotted something on our son's lung during his xray for his Nuke physical, he called right away to let us know and to tell us there would be a follow up CAT Scan. We did not hear from him again for three weeks, although the CAT Scan was the same week.

Had there been any serious problem, they would have transferred him out of his RTC Division and over to Ship 17. He would have called us that same day to let us know about the problem.

If you don't hear anything, that means your Sailor is on track and focused on training, training, training!

FOr those of you concerned about your family member, remember one thing as far as boot camp goes. No news is usually good news. If something bad occured legal or medical. you would get a call and your family member would most likely be transfered to ship 17. Hang in ther for a couple of weeks. They have to get these kids attention and get them lined out with minimal distractions but you will hear from them.
