No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

We are headed to Chicago today, and had a nice long talk with our new sailor yesterday! He said the last week is like "Boot Camp Heaven" as they have a lot more freedaom...they are busy practicing PIR today, and we will see him tomorrow morning. Can't wait!

I took the shuttle. It was smooth and did not have to wait in line to get on base. The train station parking lot sounds like a good idea too.

By the way what an experience youll never be prouder.

There is a train station right next to the base with parking. We found it easiest to park there for 2 bucks and then have the car available with no issues getting out.

Dear PIR experts: Is it better to take a shuttle to PIR from hotel or drive in car ? Which has the most walking and etc ? Thanks for any tips. Just received packet for my son. PIR is May 1st. I'm making plans this week to attend. Is there a contest for the best PIR ? Sounds as if they are all the GREATEST. LOTS OF LUCK to all of the SAILORS that have made PIR. We salute them all.

We attended PIR for our son this past weekend. It was an awsome experiance and one that we will remember forever. For those with kids still in BC, make sure you send the letters. They are charished by your recruits. Don't send cards that make noise. Enjoy your Liberty with your kids affter PIR.
