No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congratulations to your son Michael B, that's the best call! We got ours on Thursday while we were stranded at the Denver airport trying to get to PIR. Sounds like your group was a little farther ahead.

Coach D, hope your get together is better than ours. My wife did the same thing on Navy Moms and then we were too late to go to Flanagans. From what I heard the only ones who made it drove or got there early. But it will be Spring, so hopefully your weather will be better.

And Keith, definitely write, even if you just send them jokes or trivia off the internet. It's not what's in the letter, but that you were thinking of them and they get to connect with home.

The last letter I sent to my daughter, Number 45, got there just before Battlestations. She had been having a bad day and was worried about that night, and then she read my last letter. It was one of those "I'm so proud of you and know you've got this made," kind of things. I got a little carried away with the emotion on that one. Anyway, later she told me that letter carried her through and she thanked me profusely. She kept that one with her when she gave us the rest of her letters to take home. All I can say is I was glad to help!

Thats good news Keith. They can get letters almost everyday but they can only send letters on Sundays. I sent letters almost every day. My son said the letters from home really helped.

PIR March 27th
Everyone attending PIR on this date is invited to a Meet and Greet at Flanagans Thursday night from 6-9pm. My wife has organized it on NavyforMoms and we would like to meet everyone who has a son/daughter graduating. Come celebrate their great achievement with food, drink and fellowship. Please RSVP with the number in your party that will be attending and I hope to see you all there.

I haven't posted here in awhile . My son Jeff was wainting for his contract to come . I totally forgot about " hurry up and wait" . He is set to ship to bootcamp on November 3 2009. Such a long way off but such a short amount of time too . Congrats to all the dad's that have them in there already or have PIR'd.
